Frogeye Leaf Spot Resistance NOT Found in Iowa [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
During the 2011 season several foliar diseases were present in Iowa, including brown spot, Cercospora leaf blight and frogeye leaf spot. The disease that was noticeably higher in 2011 compared to previous years was frogeye leaf spot, at least in ...

Morphological and molecular characterization of Curvularia and related species associated with leaf spot disease of rice in Peninsular Malaysia [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Curvularia species are important phytopathogens reported worldwide. They are closely related; consist of major destructive pathogens mainly for grasses and cereal plants including rice (Oryza sativa).

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

Fast screening methodology for the assessment of cassava resistance to the passalora disease complex. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Among the several pathogens of cassava (Manihot esculenta Crantz), the Passalora spp. complex is by far the most frequent worldwide. Three different diseases make up this complex: blight leaf spot (BILS) caused by P.

An isoform of 14‐3‐3 protein regulates transbilayer lipid movement at the plasma membrane

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Loss of 14‐3‐3ζ in CHO cells confers resistance to exogenous phosphatidylserine (PS) and impairs endocytosis‐independent inward flip‐flop of fluorescent PS at the plasma membrane. RNAi‐mediated knockdown reproduces this defect, while no additive effect is seen in ATP11C‐deficient cells.

Don’t Stop Now! [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Now is not the time to stop scouting. It may not be pleasant out there (think pollen and hot), but the weather the past couple of weeks has been favorable for gray leaf spot development.

Niche sharing reflects a poorly understood biodiversity phenomenon [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Eucalyptus spp. are susceptible to a large number of foliar pathogens, some of which can cause serious defoliation and die-back. In this study, a single leaf spot on a Eucalyptus leaf collected in Madagascar revealed an unusual association of microfungi ...

AAA+ protein unfoldases—the Moirai of the proteome

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
AAA+ unfoldases are essential molecular motors that power protein degradation and disaggregation. This review integrates recent cryo‐electron microscopy (cryo‐EM) structures and single‐molecule biophysical data to reconcile competing models of substrate translocation.
