Programmable Pneumatic Actuator System for a Bioinspired Artificial Colon

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
A modular soft robotic colon simulator driven by programmable pneumatic actuation is developed to mimic physiological and pathological‐like motility patterns of the large intestine. Finite element–guided design and distributed control enable anatomically realistic deformation for peristalsis, segmentation, and mass movements, supporting capsule ...

Conservative treatment of processus vaginalis hernia in two peritoneal dialysis patients

open access: yesSaudi Journal of Kidney Diseases and Transplantation, 2010
Dialysate leakage represents one of the major noninfectious complications of peri-toneal dialysis (PD). In some instances, dialysate leakage may lead to discontinuation of the technique.

Surrogate‐Optimized Flow‐Guided Miniature Condenser for Rapid Exhaled Glucose Detection

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
A surrogate‐optimized miniature condenser guides humid exhaled flow toward cold surfaces to accelerate exhaled breath condensate collection. By improving vapor access within a compact footprint, the design increases sample yield. This enables post‐collection enrichment and rapid colorimetric glucose detection from dilute exhaled biomarkers within a 5 ...

Programmable Variable‐Stiffness Multilayer Elastomer Composites With High‐Aspect‐Ratio Low‐Melting‐Point Alloy Inclusions

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
High‐aspect‐ratio low‐melting‐point alloy inclusions are embedded within multilayer silicone laminates to create thermally programmable stiffness. Sequential activation of alloy‐rich layers produces four distinct mechanical states and reconfigures tendon‐driven actuator trajectories under the same load.

Economic comparison of periodic acoustic surveys and DMA-based leakage management strategies

open access: yes, 2005
It's usually claimed that leakage management strategies based on district metered areas are economically more effective than strategies based on periodic acoustic surveys. This claim has not been validated by an economic analysis.
