Development of leaky-wave antennas

2016 IEEE International Symposium on Antennas and Propagation (APSURSI), 2016
This presentation overviews the development of leaky-wave antennas (LWAs) and the area of leaky waves, starting with the first LWA that was introduced and the early pioneering work of Marcuvitz and Oliner in explaining leaky-wave theory. The development leads up through the present time, where LWAs have seen a renewed interest in the context of ...

Security in terahertz WLANs with Leaky wave antennas

Proceedings of the 13th ACM Conference on Security and Privacy in Wireless and Mobile Networks, 2020
This paper presents the first security study of THz networks with Leaky Wave Antennas (LWAs). We employ a mix of analytical models and over-the-air experiments to explore the unique security properties of LWA links. We show via both models and experiments that the LWA's angle-frequency coupling leads to non-uniform secrecy capacity across sub-channels ...

Amplitude-Modulated Leaky-Wave Antennas

IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation, 2021
Borrowing the idea of amplitude modulation from classical communications theory, this article proposes and demonstrates a new concept of amplitude-modulated (AM) leaky-wave antennas. In the proposed concept, the traveling wave in a wave-guiding structure serves as the carrier wave whose amplitude is spatially modulated by a predefined modulating ...

Stepped leaky-wave antennas for microwave and millimeter wave applications

Annales Des Télécommunications, 1997
This work presents the complete general features of a recently proposed class of leaky-wave antennas, derived from stepped rectangular-section waveguides with radiating slits. Based on very favorable topological features, straightforward but extremely effective design procedures are shown to be possible for achieving sophisticated radiation properties.

Propagation characteristics of leaky waves on a 2D periodic leaky-wave antenna

2017 IEEE MTT-S International Microwave Symposium (IMS), 2017
A two-dimensional (2D) periodic leaky-wave antenna consisting of a periodic distribution of rectangular patches on a grounded dielectric substrate, excited by a narrow slot in the ground plane, is studied here. The TM0 surface wave that is normally supported by a grounded dielectric substrate is perturbed by the presence of the periodic patches to ...

Review of Recent Advances in the Leaky-Wave Analysis of 2-D Leaky-Wave Antennas

2020 14th European Conference on Antennas and Propagation (EuCAP), 2020
Recent developments are reviewed in the area of leaky-wave analysis of two-dimensional (2-D) leaky-wave antennas. Recent results are reviewed in three areas: (1) new beamwidth formulas for 2-D leaky-wave antennas, (2) leakywave analysis of wideband Fabry-Perot cavity antennas, and (3) leaky-wave analysis of 2-D periodic leaky-wave antennas (those that ...

A leaky-wave groove antenna at optical frequency

Journal of Applied Physics, 2012
In the framework of nanoantennas functioning at optical frequencies, we present here a new kind of leaky-wave antenna realized as a groove in an aluminum superstrate, supported by a silver substrate. The antenna works in the optical frequency range where the silver acts as a dielectric with equivalent refractive index between zero and one.

Graphene terahertz leaky-wave antennas

2019
In this chapter, we focus on the recent developments made in the context of graphene THz antennas, especially those exploiting the graphene field effect to reconfigure their radiating features. To this purpose, we first review the electronic properties of graphene in the THz range from both a physical and an engineering perspective.
