Low NO(x) potential of gas turbine engines [PDF]

open access: yes
The purpose is to correlate emission levels of gas turbine engines. The predictions of NO(x) emissions are based on a review of the literature of previous low NO(x) combustor programs and analytical chemical kinetic calculations. Concepts included in the

Spatially Tailorable Liquid Crystalline Elastomer Alignment During Digital Light Process 3D Printing

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Here, we report the fabrication of 3D printable liquid crystalline elastomer (LCE) structures with spatially tailorable alignment domains within the same layer. This work addresses the long‐standing challenge of preparing complex 3D LCE architectures with patterned functional domains to achieve nonlinear deformations. Fabrication of multi‐domains in 3D

Influence of Compression Ratio on Combustion and Emission Characteristics of Hydrogen Internal Combustion Engines Under Different Excess Air Coefficients

open access: yesEnergies
Hydrogen internal combustion engines (H2-ICEs) are a promising solution for decarbonizing heavy-duty transportation. This study investigates the effects of compression ratio (CR: 9, 11, 13) and excess air ratio (λ: 1–5) on the performance, emissions, and

Contact Lens with Moiré Patterns for High‐Precision Eye Tracking

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work presents a passive contact lens for high‐precision eye tracking, integrating a microscopic moiré grating label. The parallax‐induced shift of macroscopic moiré patterns enables angle measurement with 0.28° precision using a standard camera under ambient light.

Investigation into Lean-Burn Combustor Thermo-acoustic Instabilities: Modelling of Entropy Convection for Low Frequency Rumble Prediction [PDF]

open access: yes
New combustion methods, aimed to reduce emissions, are shown to be susceptible to instability. To reduce nitrogen oxides, the traditional diffusion flame is replaced by lean combustion, where fuel-air are partially premixed, and combustion conditions are

Role of Histidine‐Containing Peptoids in Accelerating the Kinetics of Calcite Growth

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Amphiphilic histidine‐containing peptoids mimic carbonic anhydrase (CA) to accelerate calcite step growth. In the presence of Zn2+, they promote the deprotonation of HCO3−, the desolvation of Ca2+, and the reorganization of interfacial hydration layers, thereby reducing the activation barrier for calcite growth.

High-temperature durability considerations for HSCT combustor [PDF]

open access: yes
The novel combustor designs for the High Speed Civil Transport will require high temperature materials with long term environmental stability. Higher liner temperatures than in conventional combustors and the need for reduced weight necessitates the use ...

Real‐Time, Label‐Free Monitoring of Cell Behavior on a Bioelectronic Scaffold

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A bioelectronic nanofibrous scaffold is introduced that supports cell growth while enabling real‐time, label‐free monitoring of cellular behavior through impedance measurements. The system correlates electrical signals with cell viability and surface coverage, offering an integrated platform for studying dynamic biological processes and advancing next ...
