Sex, lean body mass, and cardiac performance

Science Translational Medicine, 2022
Lower lean body mass associated with reduced cardiovascular reserve at rest and peak exercise in women but not men may underlie sex differences in heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (Diaz-Canestro et al. ).

Urinary creatinine excretion and lean body mass

The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, 1976
In a group of 34 adult and child subjects a high correlation (r = 0.988) was found between lean body mass, as determined by potassium-40 counting, and urinary creatinine excretion. The effect of technical errors was reduced by averaging the results of two or three 40K assays on each subject, and by making consecutive 3-day collections of urine.

Gentamicin Dosage and Lean Body Mass

Annals of Internal Medicine, 1977
Excerpt To the editor: The paper by Hull and Sarubbi in the August 1976 issue (Ann Intern Med85:183-189) has been useful in helping us to administer appropriate doses of gentamicin to our patients....

Lean body mass, body surface area and epirubicin kinetics

Anti-Cancer Drugs, 1994
For a number of cytotoxics, a relationship between efficacy and plasma concentrations has recently been demonstrated. Lean body mass has been demonstrated to be a useful parameter for predicting drug clearance for a number of non-cytotoxic drugs. However, the role of lean body mass in predicting drug clearance for any cytotoxic drug has not been ...

Does lean body mass equal health despite body mass index?

Scandinavian Journal of Medicine & Science in Sports, 2019
ObjectiveTo determine the association between having simultaneously high body mass index (BMI) and high relative lean body mass (LBM) and cardio‐metabolic risk factors, metabolic syndrome (MetS), and diabetes in adults.Materials and MethodsA cross‐sectional analysis was performed on 4982 adults aged 19‐85 years that participated in the National Health ...

Evaluation of lean body mass in obese children

European Journal of Pediatrics, 2007
Multiple skinfold anthropometry (MSA) and bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) are useful as clinically non-invasive, inexpensive and portable techniques, although it is not clear if they can be used interchangeably in the same patient to routinely assess her/his body composition.

The Meaning and Measurement of Lean Body Mass

Nutrition Reviews, 2009
Methods of measuring lean body mass have evolved greatly in the past decade. Because all practical methods of measurement are indirect (i.e., not involving carcass analysis), appropriate models of body composition must be applied. Today's improved precision is due both to better instrumentation and to improved models based on partition of the body into
