Diffusion Tractography Biomarker for Epilepsy Severity in Children With Drug‐Resistant Epilepsy

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To develop a novel deep‐learning model of clinical DWI tractography that can accurately predict the general assessment of epilepsy severity (GASE) in pediatric drug‐resistant epilepsy (DRE) and test if it can screen diverse neurocognitive impairments identified through neuropsychological assessments.

Development of a viable bedside ultrasound protocol to accurately predict appendicular lean tissue mass [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Background: Quantifying lean tissue or muscle mass in aging and clinical populations is of increasing importance due to emerging associations between low muscle mass and poor physical function, as well as increased rates of morbidity and mortality.

Higher Amyloid and Tau Burden Is Associated With Faster Decline on a Digital Cognitive Test

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective A 2‐min digital clock‐drawing test (DCTclock) captures more granular features of the clock‐drawing process than the pencil‐and‐paper clock‐drawing test, revealing more subtle deficits at the preclinical stage of Alzheimer's disease (AD). A previous cross‐sectional study demonstrated that worse DCTclock performance was associated with

Association of estrogen receptor alpha gene PvuII and XbaI polymorphisms with obesity-related phenotypes and body composition in Iranian children and adolescents: a cross-sectional study

open access: yesEgyptian Journal of Medical Human Genetics
Background Obesity in children is a serious health issue. In this study, we investigated the association of ESR1 rs2234693 (PvuII) and rs9340799 (XbaI) with obesity-related phenotypes and body composition in Iranian children and adolescents.

Insights Into the Antigenic Repertoire of Unclassified Synaptic Antibodies

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective We sought to characterize the sixth most common finding in our neuroimmunological laboratory practice (tissue assay‐observed unclassified neural antibodies [UNAs]), combining protein microarray and phage immunoprecipitation sequencing (PhIP‐Seq). Methods Patient specimens (258; 133 serums; 125 CSF) meeting UNA criteria were profiled;

Real‐World Investigation of Satralizumab in Patients With Neuromyelitis Optica Spectrum Disease

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Satralizumab, a monoclonal antibody targeting the interleukin‐6 receptor, has demonstrated efficacy in clinical trials for neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD). However, its real‐world effectiveness and safety compared to conventional immunosuppressive therapies remain uncertain.

Resistance Training or Whey Protein as an Intervention to Preserve Lean Mass in Men Observing Ramadan

open access: yesPhysiologia
Background: Individuals observe Ramadan fasting for ~11 h per day for 28–30 days, which can negatively affect lean mass. Resistance training or increased protein intake can potentially preserve lean mass in these individuals.

Comparison of MRI and DXA to measure muscle size and age-related atrophy in thigh muscles. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
OBJECTIVES Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry (DXA) were used to examine the thigh lean mass in young and old men and women.

The Case of a 28‐Year‐Old Woman With Medically Refractory Focal Epilepsy

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We present the case of a 28‐year‐old right‐handed woman with medically refractory focal epilepsy. Her seizure semiology and electroencephalography (EEG) indicated a seizure onset zone in the right central‐parietal area. However, both MRI and PET scans were unremarkable, showing no focal lesions or areas of altered metabolism.
