Estimation of Hand Motion from Piezoelectric Soft Sensor Using Deep Recurrent Network

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2020
Soft sensors are attracting significant attention in human−machine interaction due to their high flexibility and adaptability. However, estimating motion state from these sensors is difficult due to their nonlinearity and noise.

Cell‐cycle‐specific lesion evolution rather than inhibition of double‐strand‐break repair underpins cisplatin radiosensitization

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We analyze cisplatin–DNA adducts (CDAs) and double‐strand breaks (DSBs) in a cell‐cycle‐dependent manner. We find that CDAs form similarly across all cell cycle phases. DSBs arise only in S‐phase. CDAs might not directly impair DSB repair, but S‐phase DSB lesions evolve in the presence of CDAs and disrupt repair in G2, also causing radiosensitization ...

Real-time grasp type recognition using leap motion controller [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The recognition of grasp type is essential for a more detailed analysis of human action. In this paper, we propose a novel method for real-time grasp type recognition using Leap motion controller (LMC). Our proposal is based on the tracking data provided by the LMC sensor and a series of feature descriptors are introduced and extracted from LMC data ...

Leap Motion-based virtual reality training for improving motor functional recovery of upper limbs and neural reorganization in subacute stroke patients

open access: yesNeural Regeneration Research, 2017
Virtual reality is nowadays used to facilitate motor recovery in stroke patients. Most virtual reality studies have involved chronic stroke patients; however, brain plasticity remains good in acute and subacute patients.

The Penn Jerboa: A Platform for Exploring Parallel Composition of Templates [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
We have built a 12DOF, passive-compliant legged, tailed biped actuated by four brushless DC motors. We anticipate that this machine will achieve varied modes of quasistatic and dynamic balance, enabling a broad range of locomotion tasks including sitting,

Interaction of HS1BP3 with cortactin modulates TKS5 localisation, cell secretion and cancer malignancy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Here, we demonstrate that HS1BP3 interacts with Cortactin through a proline‐rich region (PRR3.1) and show that this interaction, and HS1BP3 itself, promote cancer cell proliferation and invasion. Inhibition of this interaction leads to build‐up of TKS5 in multivesicular endosomes and altered secretion of CD63 and CD9, providing an explanation for the ...

MilliSonic: Pushing the Limits of Acoustic Motion Tracking

open access: yes, 2019
Recent years have seen interest in device tracking and localization using acoustic signals. State-of-the-art acoustic motion tracking systems however do not achieve millimeter accuracy and require large separation between microphones and speakers, and as

Polarization‐resolved femtosecond Vis/IR spectroscopy tailored for resolving weak signals in biological samples using minimal sample volume

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Unique biological samples, such as site‐specific mutant proteins, are available only in limited quantities. Here, we present a polarization‐resolved transient infrared spectroscopy setup with referencing to improve signal‐to‐noise tailored towards tracing small signals. We provide an overview of characterizing the excitation conditions for polarization‐

Human-based framework for the assembly of elastic objects by a dual-arm robot

open access: yesROBOMECH Journal, 2017
This paper proposes a new framework for planning assembly tasks involving elastic parts. As an example of these kind of assembly tasks, we deal with the insertion of ring-shaped objects into a cylinder by a dual-arm robot.
