The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Leveraging Electric Network Frequency Estimation for Audio Authentication

open access: yesIEEE Access
The Electric Network Frequency (ENF) serves as a simple means to verify the authenticity of audio recordings. ENF variations contain crucial information, acting as a distinctive “fingerprint” when electronic devices are connected or located

Mechanical Learning for Prediction of Sepsis-Associated Encephalopathy

open access: yesFrontiers in Computational Neuroscience, 2021
Objective: The study aims to develop a mechanical learning model as a predictive model for predicting the appearance of sepsis-associated encephalopathy (SAE).Materials and Methods: The prediction model was developed in a primary cohort of 2,028 sepsis ...

Portfolio selection models: A review and new directions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Modern Portfolio Theory (MPT) is based upon the classical Markowitz model which uses variance as a risk measure. A generalization of this approach leads to mean-risk models, in which a return distribution is characterized by the expected value of return (

The neural crest‐associated gene ERRFI1 is involved in melanoma progression and resistance toward targeted therapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
ERRFI1, a neural crest (NC)‐associated gene, was upregulated in melanoma and negatively correlated with the expression of melanocytic differentiation markers and the susceptibility of melanoma cells toward BRAF inhibitors (BRAFi). Knocking down ERRFI1 significantly increased the sensitivity of melanoma cells to BRAFi.

On robust cross-validation for nonparametric smoothing [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Procedures for local-constant smoothing are investigated in a broad variety of data situations with outliers and jumps. Moving window and nearest neighbour versions of mean and median smoothers are considered, as well as double window and linear ...

Plasma extrachromosomal circular DNA as a biomarker in EGFR‐targeted therapy of non‐small cell lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Detection of extrachromosomal circular DNA (eccDNA) in plasma samples from EGFR‐mutated non‐small cell lung cancer patients. Plasma was collected before and during treatment with the EGFR‐tyrosine kinase inhibitor osimertinib. Plasma eccDNA was detected in all cancer samples, and the presence of the EGFR gene on eccDNA serves as a potential biomarker ...

An Approach to Improving GNSS Positioning Accuracy Using Several GNSS Devices

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2021
Single point positioning (SPP) mode, related to pseudorange measurements, limits the level of accuracy to several meters in open sky and to several dozens of meters in urban canyons.

In vitro models of cancer‐associated fibroblast heterogeneity uncover subtype‐specific effects of CRISPR perturbations

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Development of therapies targeting cancer‐associated fibroblasts (CAFs) necessitates preclinical model systems that faithfully represent CAF–tumor biology. We established an in vitro coculture system of patient‐derived pancreatic CAFs and tumor cell lines and demonstrated its recapitulation of primary CAF–tumor biology with single‐cell transcriptomics ...
