Robust Polymer Hydrogels Improve Electric‐Fish‐Inspired Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Electric‐fish‐inspired hydrogel batteries based on ion‐concentration gradients offer an attractive route to soft power sources; however, the poor mechanical properties of existing hydrogels limit device assembly and performance. Here, we report poly(ethylene glycol) methyl ether acrylate hydrogels that enable ion‐gradient batteries composed of

NII Technical Report (NII-2015-001E):Modulus-Type Inner Outer Iterative Methods for Nonnegative Constrained Least Squares Problems

open access: yesNII Technical Report (NII-2015-001E):Modulus-Type Inner Outer Iterative Methods for Nonnegative Constrained Least Squares Problems
For the solution of large sparse nonnegative constrained least squares (NNLS) problems, a new iterative method is proposed by using conjugate gradient least squares (CGLS) method for inner iterations and the modulus-type iterative method in the outer iterations for the solution of linear complementarity problem (LCP) resulting from Karush-Kuhn-Tucker ...

Bioactive Conductive Ti3C2Tx‐Ce Hydrogel Facilitates Spinal Cord Injury Repair Through ROS Scavenging and Mitochondrial Regulation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Bioactive conductive Ti3C2Tx‐Ce hydrogels with with scavenging ROS and alleviating neuronal mitochondrial dysfunction are exploited for SCI treatment. This functionality is attributed to interfacial activation modification of Ti3C2Tx with Ce3+ ions to in‐situ form Ce(OH)x‐mediated protective layer, which is beneficial to enabling stable intracellular ...

The Terminal Domains of Collagen‐Like Silk Direct Molecular Interactions and Liquid–Liquid Phase Separation‐Mediated Material Assembly

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Terminal domains of recombinant collagen‐like silk regulate hierarchical self‐assembly across molecular and material scales. We show that terminal domains of collagen‐like silk enhance triple‐helix stability and drive liquid–liquid phase separation, enabling reversible formation of fibers and self‐healing films.

Generating and measuring the anisotropic elastic behaviour of Co thin films with oriented surface nano-strings on micro-cantilevers

open access: yesNanoscale Research Letters, 2011
In this research, the elastic behaviour of two Co thin films simultaneously deposited in an off-normal angle method was studied. Towards this end, two Si micro-cantilevers were simultaneously coated using pulsed laser deposition at an oblique angle ...

NII Technical Report (NII-2016-001E):Modulus-Type Inner Outer Iteration Methods for Nonnegative Constrained Least Squares Problems (Revised Version)

open access: yesNII Technical Report (NII-2016-001E):Modulus-Type Inner Outer Iteration Methods for Nonnegative Constrained Least Squares Problems (Revised Version)
For the solution of large sparse nonnegative constrained least squares (NNLS) problems, a new iterative method is proposed which uses the CGLS method for the inner iterations and the modulus iterative method for the outer iterations to solve the linear complementarity problem resulting from the Karush-Kuhn-Tucker condition of the NNLS problem ...

Co‐Electrospinning Extracellular Matrix with Polycaprolactone Enables a Modular Approach to Balance Bioactivity and Mechanics of a Multifunctional Bone Wrap

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
The incorporation of nondigested ECM and synthetic polymers into a co‐electrospinning system enables the decoupling of bioactivity and mechanical properties within a single wrap. This technique is used to develop a multifunctional bone wrap that achieves augmented membrane durability, sustained infection control, and enhanced vascularity for use in ...
