Method of least squares

2010
The method of least squares with k explanatory variables. X is often called the design matrix. Definition of the coefficient of determination and the multiple correlation coefficient. 100R2 is percentage of explained variation in y.

The Method of Least Squares

2006
The method of least squares is a geometric principle of curve fitting. The unknown parameters of a function are calculated in such a way that the sum of squared differences between function values and measurements gets minimal. Examples are given for a linear and a nonlinear curve fitting problem. Consequences of model linearizations are explained.

Least-Squares Methods

2001
Least-squares is described as a method for solving problems where there is an excess of information available. This is often the case in experimental mechanics. The method can be used to include information from different sources; experimental and theoretical. The method is applied to curve fitting problems and to more general situations.
