Species and Subspecies Limits in Least Terns
The Condor, 1998In their recent commentary, Patten and Erickson (1996) raised two issues: (1) the specific distinctness of the Least Tern (Sterna antillarum) from the Little Tern (S. albifrons) and (2) the subspecific name(s) to be applied to breeding populations of Least Terns in coastal western Mexico.

Status of the Interior Population of Least Tern
The Journal of Wildlife Management, 1999Because the interior population of least tern (Sterna antillarum) was listed as endangered in 1985. information on population status, trends, and productivity is necded to guide management of this population We compared recent estimates (1986-95) of tern numbers to objectives identified in the Recovery Plan, used linear regression to estimate trends ...

European Rabbits as Potential Least Tern Nest Predators
Northeastern Naturalist, 2011Abstract After the complete destruction of a Sterna antillarum (Least Lern) nesting colony on Lovells Island in Boston Harbor in 2007, we set remote-sensing cameras over artificial tern nests in an effort to identify potential nest predators. In addition to Corvus brachyrhynchos (American Crows) and Rattus norvegicus (Brown Rats), Oryctolagus cuniculus

CALIFORNIA LEAST TERN CHICK PREDATION BY GREATER ROADRUNNER
The Southwestern Naturalist, 2006Abstract We present the first documented account of adult greater roadrunner (Geococcyx californianus) feeding on California least tern chicks (Sterna antillarum browni). This predation event occurred at a designated nesting site within Batiquitos Lagoon, San Diego County, California, in 1996.

Refined Colorimetry Validates Endangered Subspecies of the Least Tern
The Condor, 1998In contrast to the results of Thompson et al. (1992), refined colorimetry validates three subspecies of Least Tern in North America, Sterna antillarum antillarum (Lesson), S. a. browni Mearns, and S. a. athalassos Burleigh and Lowery. Four of nine color characters exhibited significant seasonal differences, presumably a result of plumage wear and ...

Environmental contaminants in eggs of California least terns (Sterna antillarum browni)
Bulletin of Environmental Contamination and Toxicology, 1995A severe decline in the coastal breeding population of California least terns (Sterna antillarum browni) in California and Baja California prompted both State and Federal governments to designate it an endangered species in 1970. Significant losses of nesting and feeding habitat have contributed greatly to the decline of this subspecies.
