Estimates of Marine Mammal, Sea Turtle, and Seabird Mortality in the California Drift Gillnet Fishery for Swordfish and Thresher Shark, 1996–2002 [PDF]
Estimates of incidental marine mammal, sea turtle, and seabird mortality in the California drift gillnet fishery for broadbill swordfish, Xiphias gladius, and common thresher shark, Alopias vulpinus, are summarized for the 7-year period, 1996 to 2002 ...

Fine-scale foraging ecology of leatherback turtles [PDF]
Remote tracking of migratory species and statistical modeling of behaviors have enabled identification of areas that are of high ecological value to these widely distributed taxa. However, direct observations at fine spatio-temporal scales are often needed to correctly interpret behaviors.

Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Current knowledge about telomere biology relies to a very high degree on results from research on endotherms. This would not be problematic if organisms shared the same mechanisms regulating telomere length (TL) but this is not necessarily the case; for example, most ...

Habitat Use and Foraging Ecology of Three Sea Turtle Species Nesting in Northwest Costa Rica
ABSTRACT Sea turtle species, even when sharing nesting beaches, exhibit distinct at‐sea movements and foraging behavior. At Playa Cabuyal, a sea turtle nesting beach in northwest Costa Rica, we utilized satellite telemetry to reveal the post‐nesting movement of green turtles (Chelonia mydas, n = 9) alongside carbon and nitrogen stable isotope analysis ...

Crying a river: how much salt-laden jelly can a leatherback turtle really eat? [PDF]
Leatherback turtles (Dermochelys coriacea) are capital breeders that accumulate blubber (33 kJ g−1 wet mass) by hyperphagia on a gelatinous diet at high latitudes; they breed in the tropics.

Leatherbacks Matching by Automated Image Recognition [PDF]
We describe a method that performs automated recognition of individual laetherback turtles within a large nesting population. With only minimal preprocessing required of the user, we prove able to produce unsupervised matching results. The matching is based on the Scale-Invariant Feature Transform by Lowe.
