Abstract We present here a complete system for metagenomic analysis that allows performing the sequencing and analysis of a medium‐size metagenome in less than one day. This unprecedented development was possible due to the conjunction of state‐of‐the‐art experimental and computational advances: a portable laboratory suitable for DNA extraction and ...

Diversity and Evolution of Sensor Histidine Kinases in Eukaryotes [PDF]
Histidine kinases (HKs) are primary sensor proteins that act in cell signaling pathways generically referred to as "two component systems" (TCSs). TCSs are among the most widely distributed transduction systems used by both prokaryotic and eukaryotic ...

Amplicon-Metagenomic Analysis of Fungi from Antarctic Terrestrial Habitats
In cold environments such as polar regions, microorganisms play important ecological roles, and most of our knowledge about them comes from studies of cultivable microorganisms.

Contribution to the knowledge of some poorly known lichens in Poland. III. Trapelia corticola and the genus Vezdaea [PDF]
New data on four Vezdaea species and Trapelia corticola (lichenized Ascomycota, Lecanoromycetes) are presented for Poland. V. acicularis is reported as new to the country and records of V. retigera are newly published.

Phylogenetic studies of cyanobacterial lichens [PDF]
Phylogenetic studies of cyanobacterial lichens Lichens are symbiotic assemblages between fungi (mycobiont) and green algae (phycobiont) or/and cyanobacteria (cyanobiont). Fossil records show that lichen-like symbioses occurred already 600 million years
