Net Zero Energy‐Ready Buildings: A Canadian Construction Perspective and Evaluation

open access: yesAdvanced Sustainable Systems, Volume 8, Issue 12, December 2024.
The design process for net‐zero energy‐ready buildings (NZErB) enhances energy resilience. This study assesses the potential of new and retrofit buildings in Canada to achieve NZErB status, using key performance indicators. Most new buildings and many retrofit ones meet level 5 in airtightness, TEDI, MEUI, and energy efficiency, with cellulose ...

Epitaxy of GaSe Coupled to Graphene: From In Situ Band Engineering to Photon Sensing

open access: yesSmall, Volume 20, Issue 40, October 3, 2024.
A new approach to epitaxy and in situ band engineering of 2D semiconductors on graphene is presented. Atomically‐thin layers of centro‐symmetric gallium selenide (GaSe) form a high‐quality, scalable interface with graphene, referred to as 2semgraphene.

Heterogeneously Catalyzed Partial Oxidation of Styrene on a Silver Surface

open access: yesChemCatChem, Volume 16, Issue 17, September 9, 2024.
The epoxidation of olefins on silver surfaces is an important industrial process on a large scale. This paper presents microscopic insights of styrene oxidation on Ag(111) under well‐controlled ultra‐high vacuum conditions. Epoxidation exclusively takes place at elevated oxygen coverages, coinciding with the emergence of electrophilic oxygen.
