An Improved Mesh Stiffness Model for a Gear Tooth With Double Cracks on Both Sides Considering Opened and Closed States

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mechanical System Dynamics, Volume 6, Issue 1, Page 119-139, March 2026.
ABSTRACT Research on the failure mechanisms of gears with multiple cracks has gained widespread attention. Among these, the study of the mesh stiffness characteristics of gears with multiple cracks is crucial for optimizing gear design and improving transmission reliability.

Towards a fracture mechanics-based fatigue assessment of lattice structures obtained from additive manufacturing of metallic powders

open access: yesMaterials & Design
Additive Manufacturing (AM) technologies are at the forefront of technological development in machine design as they allow the production of complex parts with high stiffness-to-weight ratios, such as lattice structures, that conventional production ...

Thermal fracture characteristics of an interface crack subjected to temperature variations

open access: yesProduction Engineering Archives, 2020
Thermal fracture characteristics – the thermal energy release rate and thermal stress intensity factor of a semi-infinite crack at an interface between the two elastic isotropic materials, subjected to the temperature variations, are considered in this ...

Fatigue Lifetime Assessment of HFMI‐Treated Welded Joints According to the Peak Stress Method

open access: yesFatigue &Fracture of Engineering Materials &Structures, Volume 49, Issue 3, Page 790-819, March 2026.
ABSTRACT High‐frequency mechanical impact (HFMI) is an effective post‐weld treatment that enhances fatigue strength by inducing compressive residual stresses, localized strain hardening, and increasing weld toe radii. The peak stress method (PSM) was recently extended to evaluate the fatigue strength of HFMI‐treated steel joints under uniaxial loading ...

The Effect of Graphene on the Fatigue Response and Failure Mechanism of Composite Materials: A Review

open access: yesFatigue &Fracture of Engineering Materials &Structures, Volume 49, Issue 3, Page 933-962, March 2026.
ABSTRACT This review investigates the influence of graphene on the fatigue performance of polymer‐based composites, focusing on both unreinforced matrices and fiber‐reinforced composite laminates. Graphene materials, including nanoplatelets, graphene oxide, and hybrid nanostructures, offer exceptional mechanical, electrical, and barrier properties that

Manufacturing of PP‐Based Composite Sandwich Panels via Simultaneous Foaming and Skin‐Core Bonding

open access: yesPolymer Composites, Volume 47, Issue 3, Page 2349-2362, 10 February 2026.
One‐step CO2 physical foaming process for manufacturing thermoplastic sandwich panels: in‐situ expansion of a foaming‐grade PP core and fusion bonding with PP/glass fiber composite skins. ABSTRACT Sandwich panels are skin‐core‐skin structures commonly used in aerospace applications due to their high strength‐to‐weight ratio and flexural stiffness.

Fatigue improvement of rib‐to‐deck welded joints using adhesively bonded steel patches ‐ LEFM‐based parametric study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2023
Rib-to-deck welded joints in orthotropic steel decks of bridges are prone to develop fatigue cracks. Repairing such cracks allows for prolonging the life of the infrastructure, provided that structural safety is guaranteed.

LEFM Based Fatigue Design for Welded Connections in Orthotropic Steel Bridge Decks

open access: yes, 2015
Modern fatigue design in civil constructions is mainly limited to the use of SN-curves and the hypothesis of Palmgren-Miner, as described in design standards and Eurocode.

Design and Development of an Accessible Clip Gauge Extensometer for CMOD Measurement in Fracture Mechanics

open access: yesEngineering Reports, Volume 8, Issue 2, February 2026.
A low‐cost clip gauge extensometer for crack mouth opening displacement was developed from accessible procedures and materials. Accuracy and repeatability comparable to commercial devices were demonstrated in calibration and fracture tests, enabling reliable measurement in CT specimens for resource‐constrained laboratories.

A method for LEFM analysis of RPV during SBLOCA [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Pressure Vessels and Piping, 1986
Abstract A somewhat simplified two-dimensional linear elastic fracture mechanics (LEFM) model of the beltline of a reactor pressure vessel is presented. The fracture mechanics model used tends to be conservative in the sense that it ignores possible beneficial effects of warm prestressing and cladding. For LEFM studies that require a large number of
