Echocardiography, 2018
Left atrial (LA) masses are known to be associated with peripheral embolization. Accurate identification of etiology is crucial because treatment strategies may differ. We present the case of a young woman, who was initially diagnosed with a LA thrombus and anticoagulated.

Left Atrial Appendage Stenosis
Journal of the American Society of Echocardiography, 1999Narrowing at the mouth of the left atrial appendage has been reported after partial surgical ligation of the appendage. This report describes a patient, without prior cardiac surgery, who had an anatomic narrowing at the opening of the left atrial appendage demonstrated by 2-dimensional, Doppler, and color Doppler echocardiography.

Progress in Cardiovascular Diseases, 2015
Stroke or systemic embolism is a devastating consequence of atrial fibrillation (AF) due to thrombus formation in the left atrial appendage (LAA). AF causes thrombus formation in the LAA due to both the loss of atrial systole and the unique anatomic features of the LAA. Oral anticoagulation is a well established and effective therapy to reduce the risk

Left Atrial Appendage Aneurysm
The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, 2005Aneurysms of the left atrial appendage are exceedingly rare. Patients most commonly present with atrial tachyarrhythmias and thromboembolism. Resection of the aneurysm is usually curative. We present a case report of a 60-year-old female with a long-standing history of atrial arrhythmias found to have a large left atrial appendage aneurysm with ...

Left atrial appendage myxoma masquerading as left atrial appendage thrombus
Asian Cardiovascular and Thoracic Annals, 2013Myxomas are the most common benign tumors of the heart. They can arise from any heart chamber, but have rarely been described as originating from the left atrial appendage. We describe a case of left atrial appendage myxoma mimicking a left atrial appendage thrombus, and presenting with microembolization to the coronaries.

Left Atrial Appendage... and Another Appendage?
Journal of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Anesthesia, 2015Fig 2. 3D transesophageal echocardiography image showing the outpouching of the left atrial wall (arrow) close to the P3 scallop of the mitral valve. Abbreviations: LV, left ventricle; LA, left atrium). Fig 3. En face view of the mitral valve obtained with 3D transesophageal echocardiography. The left atrial appendage is seen at the 9 o’clock position,

LEFT ATRIAL APPENDAGE OCCLUSION FOLLOWING LEFT ATRIAL APPENDAGE ISOLATION
Journal of the American College of Cardiology, 2018LAA isolation is an important adjunctive ablation strategy in patients with non-paroxysmal AF. Given the high prevalence of poor contractile function of the LAA, the risk of stroke in this cohort is high and OAC is recommended despite maintenance of SR.

Transcatheter Left Atrial Appendage Occlusion
Cardiology Clinics, 2013Occlusion of the left atrial appendage (LAA) may reduce the risk of stroke in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF). Trials comparing LAA occlusion to warfarin anticoagulation in patients with nonvalvular AF showed a reduction in hemorrhagic stroke, although an increase in safety events due to procedural complications.

Republished: Left atrial appendage occlusion
Postgraduate Medical Journal, 2015ABSTRACTLeft atrial appendage (LAA) occlusion for stroke and thromboembolism prevention in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) represents a significant advancement in the field of cardiovascular disease. Prevention and avoidance of the devastating consequences of thromboembolic complications from AF continues to be central in the management of these

Percutaneous Left Atrial Appendage Occlusion
