Familial angiosarcoma of the heart [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
Primary cardiac tumors are rare and about 75% are benign, of which 75% are atrial myxomas. Angiosarcomas are the most common malignant primary cardiac tumors, with 90% arising in the left atrium and 10% in the right atrium.

Unexpected Mass in the Left Atrium

Simulation of left atrial function using a multi-scale model of the cardiovascular system.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
During a full cardiac cycle, the left atrium successively behaves as a reservoir, a conduit and a pump. This complex behavior makes it unrealistic to apply the time-varying elastance theory to characterize the left atrium, first, because this theory has ...

Advancements in Bio‐Integrated Flexible Electronics for Hemodynamic Monitoring in Cardiovascular Healthcare

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This review explores the cutting‐edge development of bio‐integrated flexible electronics for real‐time hemodynamic monitoring in cardiovascular healthcare. It covers key physiological indicators, innovative sensing mechanisms, and materials considerations. This paper highlights the application of both invasive and non‐invasive devices in cardiovascular

Coronary angiography of the ex‐situ beating donor heart in a portable organ care system

open access: yesCatheterization and Cardiovascular Interventions, Volume 100, Issue 7, Page 1252-1260, December 1, 2022., 2022
Abstract Objectives To determine safety and feasibility of ex‐situ coronary angiography. Background To cater for the perpetually growing demand for heart donors, interest in donation following circulatory death (DCD) has been rekindled. Further pursuit of donor pool expansion has led to eligibility extension to “marginal” donors who are at higher risk ...

Automatically Segmenting the Left Atrium from Cardiac Images Using Successive 3D U-Nets and a Contour Loss [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2018
Radiological imaging offers effective measurement of anatomy, which is useful in disease diagnosis and assessment. Previous study has shown that the left atrial wall remodeling can provide information to predict treatment outcome in atrial fibrillation.

Left Atrium of the Mature Dromedary Camel Heart (Camelus dromedaries): Microanatomy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The current work was carried out on the left atrium of ten healthy mature camels. The specimens were collected and examined histologically after being fixed in 10% Neutral Buffered Formalin.

Recurrent acute heart failure caused by sliding hiatus hernia [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
The case is reported of a 75 year old woman who presented with recurrent nocturnal episodes of acute pulmonary oedema. The cause was uncertain as she had normal cardiothoracic ratio on chest radiography and normal left ventricular systolic and diastolic ...

An Insect Salivary Sheath Protein Triggers Plant Resistance to Insects and Pathogens as a Conserved HAMP

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The salivary sheath protein myosin from SBPH is critical for the formation of the salivary sheath and feeding. However, myosin functions as a HAMP and triggered plant BAK1‐mediated PTI responses, which include the activation of calcium signaling pathways, MAPK phosphorylation, ROS bursts, and cell death, thereby triggering JA pathway.

Underweight and obesity are related to higher mortality in patients undergoing coronary angiography: The KARDIO invasive cardiology register study

open access: yesCatheterization and Cardiovascular Interventions, Volume 100, Issue 7, Page 1242-1251, December 1, 2022., 2022
Abstract Background In patients with some cardiovascular disease conditions, slightly elevated body mass index (BMI) is associated with a lower mortality risk (termed “obesity paradox”). It is uncertain, however, if this obesity paradox exists in patients who have had invasive cardiology procedures.
