Mini‐AbstractA 58‐year‐old woman with a history of mitral valve replacement (MVR) 17 years ago and was admitted to our clinic with dyspnea. Transthoracic examination showed a normal functioning MVR with a very large left atrium which was 209 × 96 mm that was not possible to fit the screen in its entirety.

Compliance of left atrium with and without left atrium appendage
American Journal of Physiology-Heart and Circulatory Physiology, 1990Compliance of the left atrial chamber was estimated with and without the appendage intact in six isolated canine left atria. Pressure-volume determinations were measured over a range of 5-30 mmHg for the whole left atrium and were repeated with the appendage excluded. The slope of the pressure vs. normalized volume data for the left atrium without the

Leiomyosarcoma of the Left Atrium
Asian Cardiovascular and Thoracic Annals, 2008A 41-year-old woman underwent successful excision of a leiomyosarcoma of the left atrium. The preferential left atrial location and frequent myxoid appearance of leiomyosarcoma of the heart make it particularly difficult to distinguish preoperatively from atrial myxoma. Early diagnosis and aggressive surgical intervention with chemotherapy may improve

SYNOPSIS A case of idiopathic dilatation of the left atrium in a 7 month old infant is described. The initial diagnosis was a mediastinal mass, and the correct diagnosis was made at thoracotomy. His course was characterised by atrial arrhythmias for 3 months, but subsequent course was benign and the left atrial dilatation regressed to normal size.

Abstract Congenital left atrial aneurysm is a rare anomaly that has been reported only five times previously. The usual presenting features include an abnormal chest roentgenogram, an apical systolic murmur and supraventricular tachycardia. Even with cineangiocardiography the diagnosis is uncertain, and the lesion is commonly confused with cardiac ...

Shone's anomaly describes a complex involving multiple left sided cardiac obstructions, namely, parachute deformity of the mitral valve, supravalvular ring of the left atrium, subaortic stenosis and aortic coarctation. We are reporting a case of Shone's anomaly characterised by aortic recoarctation, mitral supravalvular membrane, bicuspid aortic valve,

A74-year-old man was admitted for progressive exertional dyspnea. Physical examination was normal. Echocardiography showed a myxoma-like tumor in the left atrium that impinged to the left ventricle during diastole (Fig 1A). Chest computed tomography revealed the tumor (arrow) originated from the left lower lobar bronchus and descended to the left ...

The left atrium is of considerable importance in the natural and surgical story of mitral valve stenosis. It is the first chamber to be affected when the ventricle is being filled; inside it, blood stasis and the pro-coagulant effect that stenosis causes can promote the formation of thrombi that are a considerable factor in the patient’s morbidity and ...
