Athletic Cardiac Adaptation in Males Is a Consequence of Elevated Myocyte Mass. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Cardiac remodeling occurs in response to regular athletic training, and the degree of remodeling is associated with fitness. Understanding the myocardial structural changes in athlete's heart is important to develop tools that differentiate athletic from

Measurement of left ventricular mass

open access: yesJournal of Hypertension, 1997
The strong relation between increased left ventricular mass and cardiovascular events makes accurate measurement of left ventricular mass a high priority, especially in patients with hypertension. M-mode echocardiography is used most widely to measure left ventricular mass because of its wide availability, moderate expense, anatomic and prognostic ...

Left Ventricular Mass Change After Anthracycline Chemotherapy [PDF]

open access: yesCirculation: Heart Failure, 2018
Background: Myocardial atrophy and left ventricular (LV) mass reductions are associated with fatigue and exercise intolerance. The relationships between the receipt of anthracycline-based chemotherapy (Anth-bC) and changes in LV mass and heart failure (HF) symptomatology are unknown, as is their relationship to LV ejection ...

Preliminary Study of a Ninj1‐Loaded Bimodal Ultrasound/NIR Fluorescence Targeted Molecular Probe for Diagnosing Early‐Stage Inflammation in Coronary Microvascular Dysfunction

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Coronary microvascular dysfunction (CMD) targeting remains a challenge for precise diagnosis. This work presents a dual‐modal nanoprobe (T‐IR780‐NBs) that combines ultrasound contrast with near‐infrared fluorescence. This technology utilizes proteomics‐derived antibodies that specifically localize to inflamed and injured cardiac tissue, enabling ...

Overweight and sudden death increased ventricular ectopy in cardiopathy of obesity [PDF]

open access: yes, 1987
besity has been documented to be an independent risk factor for sudden death and other cardiovascular mortality. The present study was designed to monitor and quantify cardiac arrhythmias in obese subjects with and without eccentric left ventricular ...

Ross Procedure and Left Ventricular Mass Regression [PDF]

open access: yesCirculation, 2005
Background— Return of left ventricular mass to normal is considered to be a favorable result of aortic valve replacement. The Ross procedure provides near normal hemodynamics and thus allows studies of left ventricular (LV) reverse remodeling.

A 3D Astrocyte Microenvironment Model Enables Rapid Ca2+‐Resolved Analysis and Therapeutic Modulation of Oxidative Neuroinflammation

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This work presents ARC‐3D, a soft 3D model that recreates how brain support cells, called astrocytes, react to oxidative stress. The system visualizes rapid calcium changes and inflammatory signals, and shows how the drug KDS12025 can protect cells from damage. ARC‐3D offers a simple, reliable way to study early drivers of brain inflammation.

Normotensive offspring of hypertensive Nigerians have increased Left ventricular mass and abnormal geometric patterns

open access: yesThe Pan African Medical Journal, 2012
BACKGROUND:Reports have shown that normotensive offspring of hypertensive parents (OHP) are at increased risk of developing systemic hypertension (SH) and adverse cardiovascular events later in life. The pathological antecedents of this are thought to be

Ultrasound in Women's Health: Mechanisms, Applications, and Emerging Opportunities

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
As healthcare moves toward decentralization, ultrasound technologies are evolving from strictly imaging tools in clinical settings into versatile diagnostic and therapeutic platforms, with growing roles addressing women's health needs. This review highlights how ultrasound's underlying physical mechanisms can be harnessed to reduce disparities in women'
