Useful assessment of myocardial viability and dyssynchrony from gated perfusion scintigraphy for better qualification for resynchronization therapy. Part 3

open access: yesPolish Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, 2020
The first part of the review concerning myocardial imaging by single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) discussed the basic aspects of interpretation of left ventricular perfusion disorders in stress and rest examination.

Prognostic role of TAPSE to PASP ratio in outpatients with left ventricular systolic dysfunction. [PDF]

open access: yesESC Heart Fail
Abstract Aims Few data are available regarding the role of tricuspid annulus plane systolic excursion to pulmonary artery systolic pressure (TAPSE/PASP), a measurement of right ventricular to pulmonary artery coupling, in patients with chronic heart failure and left ventricular systolic dysfunction.

TWEAK/Fn14 Signaling Drives Oxidative Cardiac Injury in Systemic Lupus Erythematosus: Evidence From Patient Biomarker Studies, Lupus Mouse Models, and Cardiomyocyte Assays

open access: yesArthritis &Rheumatology, EarlyView.
Objective Cardiac involvement is a major cause of morbidity in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Tumor necrosis factor–like weak inducer of apoptosis (TWEAK) is elevated in SLE, but its contribution to lupus‐associated cardiac injury is unclear. We investigated the role of TWEAK/fibroblast growth factor–inducible 14 (Fn14) signaling in SLE‐related ...

Blood pressure effects of SGLT2 inhibitors and GLP‐1 receptor agonists: Mechanisms, trial evidence and Real‐world data

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
SGLT2 inhibitors and GLP‐1 receptor agonists modestly lower blood pressure across diverse patient populations, including those without diabetes. These effects appear largely independent of glycaemic control and offer additive value in high‐risk patients with overlapping comorbidities.

Biomaterial design strategies for enhancing mitochondrial transplantation therapy

open access: yesBMEMat, EarlyView.
Biomaterials to facilitate mitochondrial transplantation therapy: biomaterials as barriers to protect mitochondria from pathophysiological microenvironments, like osmotic stress caused by the excessive concentration of calcium ion, reactive oxygen species, and advanced glycation end products; biomaterials integrating with biochemical cues to improve ...

Balloon‐Expandable Versus Self‐Expanding Valves in Low‐Flow, Low‐Gradient Aortic Stenosis: Does Valve Type Matter?

open access: yesCatheterization and Cardiovascular Interventions, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background The optimal choice between balloon‐expandable (BE) and self‐expanding (SE) transcatheter heart valves (THVs) in patients with low‐flow low‐gradient aortic stenosis (LFLG AS) undergoing transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) remains unclear.

Long‐Term Impact of Prosthesis‐Patient Mismatch After Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement in Patients With Small Aortic Annuli

open access: yesCatheterization and Cardiovascular Interventions, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Prosthesis‐patient mismatch (PPM) remains common following transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) and is associated with worse clinical outcomes. PPM is of particular concern in small aortic annuli (SAA). Aims To compare the incidence, predictors, and long‐term impact of PPM in SAA TAVR.
