Products and prototypes: What’s the difference? [PDF]
Prototypes are intended to demonstrate or test an idea. Commercial Off-The-Shelf products are intended for ongoing profitable sales. Their quality requirements are different: the former should be as cheap as possible whilst meeting the need for an ...

Asymmetric Information With Multiple Risks: The Case of the Chilean Private Health Insurance Market
ABSTRACT We extend the Rothshild and Stiglitz (1976) model to two sources of risk –inpatient and outpatient risk– to better proxy real‐world health insurance markets. We uncover an interesting theoretical possibility: Take individuals A and B, who are low risks in, say, the inpatient dimension but A is riskier in the outpatient dimension.

The objective Bayesian conceptualisation of proof and reference class problems [PDF]
The objective Bayesian view of proof (or logical probability, or evidential support) is explained and defended: that the relation of evidence to hypothesis (in legal trials, science etc) is a strictly logical one, comparable

Induced abortion in the world: 3. In search of a minimum common ground
Abstract The rising worldwide trend toward legalization of termination of pregnancy has been accompanied by increased polarization around abortion. Two opposite broad coalitions emerged from this confrontation, generally known as the “pro‐life” and “pro‐choice” movements. The basic issue for pro‐life advocates is that the protection of “innocent, human

Coordination Effect of Oligopolists' Multimarket Contact
ABSTRACT In this article, we examine the coordination effect of oligopolists' multimarket contact with asymmetric cost. We extend a model of infinitely repeated multimarket contact games with “symmetric advantage” in the seminal paper of Bernheim and Whinston (The RAND Journal of Economics 1990; 21(1): 1–26).

Should the standard of evidence be reduced for white collar crime? [PDF]

Rulers compete through choosing tax rates, the level of military spending, and the degree of formality of institutions. Geographic condition is captured by population density.

Joint Estimation and Bandwidth Selection in Partially Parametric Models
ABSTRACT We propose a single‐step approach to estimating a model with both a known nonlinear parametric component and an unknown nonparametric component. We study the large sample behavior of a simultaneous optimization routine that estimates both the parameter vector of the parametric component and the bandwidth vector used to smooth the unknown ...
