Tracking large bees in open landscapes with active radio tags—Advantages and challenges using stationary receivers

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, EarlyView.
Studying the spatial ecology of ecologically relevant species supports the development of effective conservation strategies. Recent technological advancements in remote tracking methods now enable researchers to study large flower‐visiting insects and important pollinators, such as carpenter bees.

Negative ecological impacts of honeybees begin at densities below recommended levels for crop pollination

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, EarlyView.
The ecological consequences of high‐density honeybee management are significant, calling for a re‐evaluation of pollination strategies in agricultural landscapes. Setting evidence‐based hive density guidelines is critical to balancing agricultural productivity with the conservation of native pollinator communities and the maintenance of healthy ...

Clarifying the generic limits of Talbotiella and Hymenostegia (Detarieae, Caesalpinioideae, Leguminosae) [PDF]

open access: yes
The formal description of four species of Cameroonian forest legume trees new to science has been hampered by uncertainty as to whether their correct generic placement is within Hymenostegia Harms or Talbotiella Baker f.

Studies on the major seed proteins of some grain crops [PDF]

open access: yes, 1979
The general properties, classification and distribution of plant proteins are discussed within an agricultural context and the protein content and composition of several grain crops are tabulated.

Optimizing the design of flower areas to enhance their effectiveness in supporting ground‐active predators: A meta‐analysis across Europe

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, EarlyView.
Our meta‐analysis highlights the value of flower areas in supporting ground‐active predators, particularly in intensively managed landscapes dominated by crop fields. The strong positive effects observed in the Mediterranean warrant further investigation into underlying mechanisms.

Wood density variation across an Andes‐to‐Amazon elevational gradient

open access: yesJournal of Ecology, EarlyView.
We study how wood density varies along a 3500‐m elevational gradient, spanning from the Andean tree line to the Amazon basin. Our results reveal that wood density decreases from low to mid‐elevations, then increases toward the tree line. These patterns underscore the influence of species composition, life forms such as tree ferns, and local ...
