AbstractThis paper takes as a starting-point the ostensibly enormous distance between Frank Ankersmit’s Leibnizian concerns in the philosophy of historiography and the contents of works of history. Sections 1, 2 and 3 display this distance by juxtaposing the details of a historical example with the basic features of Leibniz’ philosophy and Ankersmit’s ...

ON THE CONSERVATIVITY OF LEIBNIZ EQUALITY
International Journal of Foundations of Computer Science, 1998We embed a first order theory with equality in the Pure Type System λMON2 that is a subsystem of the well-known type system λPRED2. The embedding is based on the Curry-Howard isomorphism, i.e. → and ∀ coincide with → and Π. Formulas of the form [Formula: see text] are treated as Leibniz equalities.

The concept of power has been a major feature of natural law theories. It evolved over the course of several centuries and was arguably the defining notion in both Hobbes’ and Spinoza’s doctrines of natural right. Yet Leibniz appears to effect a reversal in this millennium-long trajectory and demotes power to a derivative term of his philosophy.

Abstract This essay explains the conceptual tools used in the international LeLo project, coordinated by Marcelo Dascal, which have led, often with innovative results, to the reconstruction of the virtual debate between Leibniz and Locke. The project focuses on the connection between controversies and a specific idea of communication, articulated on ...

AbstractIt would be foolish to try to pretend that Malebranche is always Leibniz's primary target in his writings on innate ideas. Obviously, the arguments of the New Essays are powerfully shaped by the polemical needs of replying to Locke, but it is surely significant that Leibniz has the resources in his philosophy for answering all Malebranche's ...
