Stimuli‐Responsive Hierarchical Structuring Controls Survival and Programs Hydrogelation of Supramolecular Metallofibers

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Aqueous Zn(II) Salphen metallofibers decorated with PNIPAM undergo reversible, multi‐stimuli‐responsive hierarchical bundling. This higher‐order structuring kinetically stabilizes the otherwise fragile assemblies against dilution, acidic hydrolysis, and transmetallation, enables selective sorting of responsive fibers, and programs hydrogelation at ...

From Fiber Bundles to Architected Membranes: Triply Periodic Minimal Surface Architectures for Biohybrid Artificial Lungs

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Additively manufactured triply periodic minimal surface (TPMS) membranes offer an architecture‐driven alternative to hollow fiber bundles in artificial lungs. Multiphysics simulations and endothelialized prototypes show that the 3D‐printable membrane architecture improves gas exchange, blood flow distribution, and hemocompatibility, enabling ...

Above Room Temperature Ferroelectricity in Epitaxially Strained KTaO3

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Through precise epitaxial engineering, the cubic and paraelectric KTaO3${\rm KTaO}_3$ is transformed into a robust ferroelectric. By leveraging lattice‐mismatched substrates to apply controlled epitaxial strain, a stable ferroelectric ground‐state is achieved with a transition temperature as high as 475 K, establishing KTaO3${\rm KTaO}_3$ as a highly ...

Programmable Functional Silicification of DNA Origami Nanostructures

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This work introduces additional functionality into silica‐coated DNA origami nanostructures using non‐standard silica precursors. A fluorescent precursor enables enhanced intracellular tracking, while a disulfide‐containing reagent yields redox‐responsive, degradable silica coatings.

Material Before Morphology: Substrate‐Dependent Mechanical Tuning of Radular Teeth

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Substrate‐dependent material tuning in Clausilia radular teeth. Closely related taxa retain a conserved gross tooth morphology, but differ in elemental composition and mechanical properties according to feeding substrate. Rock‐associated taxa show increased Ca–Si enrichment and higher stiffness and hardness, especially in the central radular region ...

Surface‐Anchored Microgel‐Based Films as Anti‐Icing Coatings

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
The microgel‐based anti‐icing coatings presented in this work reduce ice adhesion by up to 90% on various substrates. This effect can be attributed to the incorporated functional cationic moieties binding a lubricating layer of quasi‐liquid interfacial water.

Nanoporous Silica Embedded in Nanoporous Platinum: A Versatile Composite Coating for Implant‐Associated Drug Delivery From Neuronal Electrodes

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Nanoporous silica nanoparticles incorporated in nanoporous platinum offer the possibility for implant‐associated drug delivery from neuronal electrodes. ABSTRACT Sensorineural hearing loss, resulting from damage to the hair cells of the inner ear, profoundly impairs quality of life.

Strong Photoluminescence Enhancement in All‐Dielectric Ge Thin Film Metasurfaces for Integration on the Si Platform

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
Germanium (Ge) all‐dielectric metasurfaces can be leveraged to strongly enhance the radiative emission from Ge layers grown on silicon‐on‐insulator substrates by industry‐standard processes. At room‐temperature, the narrowband photoluminescence (PL) intensity is enhanced by a factor ∼40× with respect to unstructured films.

Piezoresistivity Enhancement by Graphite Flake Alignment in Thin Composite Films for Dielectric Elastomer Switches

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This article presents dielectric elastomer switch (DES) materials, based on composite thin films. Alignment of graphite flakes due to their physical confinement within the thin films lead to much stronger piezoresistive responses than bulk composites, while their durability exceeds that of conventional liquid‐based DES materials.

In Situ X‐Ray Tomography and Acoustic Emission Monitoring of Damage Evolution in C/C‐SiC Composites Fabricated by Liquid Silicon Infiltration

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study investigates how the internal structure of fiber‐reinforced ceramic composites affects their resistance to damage. By combining 3D X‐ray imaging with acoustic emission monitoring during mechanical testing, it reveals how silicon distribution influences crack formation.
