Uterine Leiomyosarcoma: Can MRI Differentiate Leiomyosarcoma From Benign Leiomyoma Before Treatment?
AJR. American journal of roentgenology, 2018OBJECTIVE The purpose of this article is to provide background on the epidemiologic, clinical, and economic impact of uterine leiomyomas, summarize the concerns associated with treating women with potential occult leiomyosarcomas (LMSs), and review the ...

Leiomyosarcoma of the rectum is a rare malignant tumor with an incidence of 0.1%, occurring more frequently in men than in women and in the fifth, sixth, and seventh decades of life. Microscopically it has a characteristic appearance of interlaced bundles of spindle cells with abundant mitosis and cellular pleomorphism.

We have reported a case of leiomyosarcoma of the rectum. These tumors comprise 0.1% of all rectal tumors, with about 100 cases having been reported. Symptomatology is nonspecific; digital examination is the most effective method of detection. Local surgical excision is as effective as abdominoperineal resection.

Primary ureteral tumors occur relatively infrequently compared to tumors of the kidney and bladder. Smooth muscle tumors of the ureter are very rare and only 9 cases of leiomyosarcoma have been reported in the literature. The treatment of choice is total nephroureterectomy with en bloc excision of the tumor. Prognosis is unfavorable as indicated by the

Abstract A case of retrovesical leiomyosarcoma in a male patient is described. The preoperative radiological and laboratory studies were inconclusive in determining the primary origin of the tumor. Diagnosis of a malignant tumor with smooth muscle origin was suggested by needle biopsy.

Leiomyosarcoma of the colon is rare, there being only 19 reports of the condition in the literature. The patient of McVerry and Levene (1956), with a leiomyosarcoma in the descending colon, was the first case recorded in this country. It is felt that a second case, this time occurring in the ascending colon, should be reported. History.

AbstractTumours of smooth muscle origin are extremely rare in the upper aerodigestive tract. Immunohistochemical studies are helpful for accurate diagnosis of leiomyosarcoma. Here, we report a case of well-differentiated laryngeal leiomyosarcoma that showed rapid local growth but no metastasis. Diagnosis and treatment of leiomyosarcoma are discussed.
