Growth Performance Is Driven by Site Conditions and Moderated by Functional Trait Plasticity in Quercus robur and Prunus avium

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 2, February 2026.
Growth performance in Quercus robur and Prunus avium is strongly influenced by site conditions, but also by functional traits (Specific Leaf Area, spring leaf‐out date), which show moderate plasticity in response to climate. These traits differ among provenances of the same species, and there is variability in trait values within the provenances.

Performance Implications of Divergent Shell Size Preferences and Exoskeleton Mass of Two Closely Related Hermit Crabs

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 2, February 2026.
Two co‐occurring species of hermit crabs use very different shell sizes, one species using shells that are too small to accommodate all the carapace or claws. The two crab species were found to have diverged in their adaptations to their environment: one species adopting a suite of traits, including the use of large shells, that enhance protection from

Acute Toxicity and Genotoxicity of cMoL, a Lectin From Moringa oleifera Seeds With Antifungal Activity Against Cryptococcus Strains

open access: yesJournal of Applied Toxicology, Volume 46, Issue 2, Page 682-696, February 2026.
ABSTRACT Coagulant Moringa oleifera lectin (cMoL) is one of the compounds involved in the application of M. oleifera seeds for traditional water treatment methods. The present study highlights the new biotechnological potential of cMoL lectin as an antifungal agent against Cryptococcus neoformans B3501 and H99 and Cryptococcus gattii R265 strains ...
