SUMMARY A study was made of the photoperiodic induction of flowering in Lemna minor, strain 6573. For comparison some experiments were performed with L. gibba. Like the latter, L. minor, strain 6573, proves to be a typical long-day plant. The critical daylength is about 10.5 hrs in a 24 hrs cycle, the response being, however, very weak.

The Lemna growth inhibition test was part of the additional aquatic test battery within the ring test. The number of reported data sets was sufficient for statistical assessment. The methodology and the results show that the Lemna (Duckweed) test, using a higher plant as test organism, can be successfully applied to assess waste eluates.
