Structural Porosity and Low Mineral Density in Enamel Rods Drive Molar Incisor Hypomineralisation
This study uses advanced imaging modalities on multiple length scales to show that molar‐incisor hypomineralization does not present as a locally homogeneous pathology. Instead, microstructural defects, characterized through non‐mineralized, protein‐rich sheaths and an altered mineral structure in between prism rods, resulting in local differences in ...

A finite element methodology for analysing degradation and collapse in postbuckling composite aerospace structures [PDF]
A methodology for analysing the degradation and collapse in postbuckling composite structures is proposed. One aspect of the methodology predicts the initiation of interlaminar damage using a strength criterion applied with a global-local analysis ...

In this report, we demonstrate that a crystalline phase of 52nm thick NiFe2O4 can be grown by RF sputtering on top of γ‐Al2O3(8nm)/SrTiO3 at a significantly low temperature (150 °C) without compromising the mobility and carrier density of the 2D electron gas at the γ‐Al2O3(8nm)/SrTiO3 interface.

Experimentally determined wear behavior of an Al2O3-SiC composite from 25 to 1200 C [PDF]
The sliding wear behavior of a self-mated alumina-silicon carbide whisker toughened composite was studied using optical, scanning electron (SEM) and transmission electron (TEM) microscopy.

Damage detection and healing performance monitoring using embedded piezoelectric transducers in large-scale concrete structures [PDF]
Concrete keeps being the leading structural material due to its low production cost and its great structural design flexibility. However, concrete is prone to various ambient and operational loads which are responsible for crack initiation and extension,

This study presents a dynamic interaction between liquid resins and photopolymerized structures enabled by an in situ light‐writing setup. By controlling a three‐phase interface through localized photopolymerization, which provides physical confinement for the remaining uncured resin regions, the approach establishes a programmable pathway that ...

Structural properties of self-healing microvascular fibre composites [PDF]
This paper presents a finite element analysis and experimental study into the effect of microvascular fibres on the mechanical properties of self-healing carbon-epoxy composite materials.

Tailored thermo‐mechanical properties of shape memory polymer composites enable large reversible deformation as well as high actuation speed. Moreover, a structural design with curvature in the transverse direction achieves sub‐second actuation on heating and a larger recovery ratio on cooling. Finally, these newly developed smart two‐way actuators can

Tribological characteristics of silicon carbide whisker-reinforced alumina at elevated temperatures [PDF]
The enhanced fracture toughness of whisker reinforced ceramics makes them attractive candidates for sliding components of advanced hear engines. Examples include piston rings and valve stems for Stirling engines and other low heat rejection devices ...
