The cosmological lens equation and the equivalent single-plane gravitational lens [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
The gravitational lens equation resulting from a single (non-linear) mass concentration (the main lens) plus inhomogeneities of the large-scale structure is shown to be strictly equivalent to the single-plane gravitational lens equation without the cosmological perturbations.

Synthetic Control of Water‐Stable Hybrid Perovskitoid Semiconductors

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Hybrid metal‐halide perovskites are promising semiconductors for optoelectronics, yet their water stability is problematic. A new synthesis method is developed using lead iodide and cysteamine under various pH conditions, forming stable perovskitoid structures.

Luneburg lens in silicon photonics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The Luneburg lens is an aberration-free lens that focuses light from all directions equally well. We fabricated and tested a Luneburg lens in silicon photonics. Our technique is sufficiently versatile for making perfect imaging devices on silicon platforms.

A Bio‐Inspired Perspective on Materials Sustainability

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This perspective discusses natural materials as inspiration for sustainable engineering designs and the processing of materials. First, circularity, longevity, parsimony, and activity are presented as essential material paradigms. The perspective then uses many examples of natural and technical materials to introduce principles such as oligo ...

Strategies for Controlling Emission Anisotropy in Lead Halide Perovskite Emitters for LED Outcoupling Enhancement

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
The rise of lead halide perovskite semiconductors has enabled high‐performance LEDs with internal quantum efficiencies approaching 100%. In order to further enhance the external quantum efficiencies limited by light outcoupling effects, in this account, the strategies for reducing energy dissipation through the substrate, waveguide, and evanescent ...

Ultrafast Laser Synthesis of Zeolites

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
The study presents a novel ultrafast laser‐driven synthesis technique for zeolites directly in liquid. Laser pulses create a microscopic reactor that controls reaction kinetics at femto‐ and picosecond timescales. Nonlinear light‐matter interactions drive nucleation and growth, allowing the process to be paused at any stage of self‐assembly.

Microscopy for Atomic and Magnetic Structures Based on Thermal Neutron Fourier-transform Ghost Imaging [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2018
We present a lensless, Fourier-transform ghost imaging scheme by exploring the fourth-order correlation function of spatially incoherent thermal neutron waves. This technique is established on the Fermi-Dirac statistics and the anti-bunching effect of fermionic fields, and the analysis must be fully quantum mechanical.

A Multimodal Humidity Adaptive Optical Neuron Based on a MoWS2/VOx Heterojunction for Vision and Respiratory Functions

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A multifunctional memristor is demonstrated for in‐memory sensing and computing, leveraging a MoWS₂/VOx heterojunction to enable high ON/OFF ratio up to 10⁸ with ultralow operating voltages of ±0.2 V. This bio‐inspired multimodal design exhibits tunable synaptic behavior across electrical, optical, and humidity stimuli, enabling in situ modulation of ...
