Differential Signaling Pathways Identified in Aqueous Humor, Anterior Capsule, and Crystalline Lens of Age-Related, Diabetic, and Post-Vitrectomy Cataract

open access: yesProteomes
Background: The purpose of this study was to detect proteomic alterations and corresponding signaling pathways involved in the formation of age-related cataract (ARC), diabetic cataract (DC), and post-vitrectomy cataract (PVC). Methods: Three sample types, the aqueous humor (AH), the anterior capsule (AC), and the content of the phaco cassette, were ...

Mandible composition and properties in two selected praying mantises (Insecta, Mantodea)

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Insects process their food with their cuticle‐based mouthparts. These feeding structures reflect their diversity and can, in some cases, showcase adaptations in material composition, mechanical properties, and shape to suit their specific dietary preferences.

Nanostructured drug delivery systems for posterior segment eye diseases: Strategies to defy ocular barriers

open access: yesBMEMat, EarlyView.
Efficient drug delivery to the posterior segment of the eye has long been a challenging issue due to the complex ocular barriers. The review focuses on the promise held by nanoplatforms for barrier penetration and the key mechanisms involved, also highlighting their advantages in achieving efficient drug delivery and superior treatment of PSEDs ...

Transcriptional profiling of single fiber cells in a transgenic paradigm of an inherited childhood cataract reveals absence of molecular heterogeneity. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Our recent single-cell transcriptomic analysis has demonstrated that heterogeneous transcriptional activity attends molecular transition from the nascent to terminally differentiated fiber cells in the developing mouse lens.

ZnO‐Coated Silicon Oxide Nano‐Anode: Synergistic Enhancement of Cycling and Thermal Stability of Lithium‐Ion Batteries

open access: yesENERGY &ENVIRONMENTAL MATERIALS, EarlyView.
Lithium‐ion battery anodes that maintain good performance and excellent stability under high temperature conditions. Silicon oxide (SiO) has great potential as a high‐capacity anode for lithium‐ion batteries, but its practical use is limited by excessive volume expansion (>200%) and rapid capacity fade, especially at high temperatures.

Performance Comparison of Monocrystalline, Polycrystalline, Low Concentrated, and Bifacial PV Modules in a Particular Geographic Location of South India

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
This study aims to conduct a performance comparison of irradiation and temperature on different commercially available PV modules like PPVM, MPVM, LPVM, and BPVM. Here, the TPVM is not considered in the analysis due to its toxic nature. This study has considered the LPVM because researchers have not focused on it due to the higher area requirement for ...

A Nutritional Paradigm to Impede Cataract Initiation: A Narrative Review of Emerging Perspective on Nutraceuticals

open access: yesFuture Postharvest and Food, EarlyView.
By lowering oxidative stress and lens protein aggregation, nutraceuticals enriched with antioxidants may reduce the development of senile cataracts, demonstrating their potential as supplemental, non‐pharmacological cataract preventive methods. ABSTRACT This review explores the emerging evidence to accommodate the developing requirement of non ...

Perovskite‐based time‐domain signal‐balancing LiDAR sensor with centimeter depth resolution

open access: yesInfoMat, EarlyView.
In this study, we present a monolithic high‐speed perovskite‐based photodetector capable of directly sensing the time delay between two light pulses with a temporal resolution of at least 170 ps. This outstanding time resolution is achieved through a signal‐balancing detection scheme that effectively overcomes the limitations of conventional ...
