Lens implantation in children

Two objections to lens implantation in children are answered. After the second year of life the size and the strength of the implanted lens does not have to be changed any more. Long-term follow-up (more than ten years) of Binkhorst 2-platinum loop lenses in traumatic cataract gives indication of slight decrease in visual function.

Secondary Intraocular Lens Implantation

The visual, refractive, and surgical results with 190 consecutive secondary implantations of an anterior chamber intraocular lens were studied. Best-corrected postoperative visual acuity was either better than or within 1 Snellen line of best-corrected preoperative vision in 87% of the cases. Abstract A retrospective study is presented of a series of anterior chamber lens implantation in 64 eyes of 54 patients after an earlier cataract extraction. Best corrected final post‐operative visual acuity was better or the same of best corrected pre‐operative vision in 93.8% of eyes.

Lens Implantation, Miosis, and Glaucoma

In a series of 1,079 patients, average age 76.3 years, 48 eyes required an iridoplasty for chronic miosis and, of these, visual acuity was 6/12 (20/40) or better postoperatively in 89.6% (43). In those patients with glaucoma, the control of intraocular pressure was the same or better than post-operative levels in 83.3% (15) of patients.

Intraocular lens implant exchanges

Extracapsular surgery in lens implantation

SUMMARY Extracapsular surgery is an ideal type of cataract surgery in combination with lens implantation insofar as stability and fixation of the lens is greatly enhanced. However, a number of complications can be expected. The main problem of extracapsular surgery is posterior capsule opacification.
