Statistics of the structure components in S0s: implications for bar induced secular evolution

open access: yes, 2013
The fractions and dimension of bars, rings and lenses are studied in the Near-IR S0 galaxy Survey (NIRS0S). We find evidence that multiple lenses in some barred S0s are related to bar resonances in a similar manner as the inner and outer rings, for which

“Writing” Crystal Phases in Amorphous Calcium Carbonate via Laser‐Induced Patterned Transformations

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Laser‐induced crystallization enabling the patterning of amorphous calcium carbonate into various distinct phases is introduced. This approach provides spatial control over polymorph selection, both crystalline and amorphous, inspired by biomineralization pathways.

Matrix Tropism Influences Endometriotic Cell Attachment Patterns

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The influence of substrate stiffness and multicellular coculture on endometriotic cell attachment to extracellular matrix‐laden microarrayed islands is reported. This model investigates early endometriotic cell attachment, aiming to capture “lesion initiation events”.

(INVITED)Miniaturized lenses integrated on optical fibers: Towards a new milestone along the lab-on-fiber technology roadmap

open access: yesResults in Optics, 2022
Optical fibers and lenses are key components in many optical systems. Lenses used to couple light into the fiber or to tailor the output beam coming out from the fiber itself typically involve bulk optical schemes and complex packaging that limit the ...

Gravitational Lensing Statistics in Universes Dominated by Dark Energy

open access: yes, 2003
We study lens statistics in flat, low-density universes with different equations of state $w=p_Q/\rho_Q$ for the dark energy component. Dark energy modifies the distance-redshift relation and the mass function of dark matter halos leading to changes in ...

Transmembrane Activation of Catalysis and Protein Refolding in Synthetic Cells by Enzymes and Nanozymes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Synthetic cells are engineered herein to respond to an external chemical messenger by the activation of intracellular catalysis. The chemical messenger molecules are catalytically generated by an extracellular enzyme or a mineral surface, whereas the intracellular catalysis emerges via direct enzyme activation or via protein refolding.
