Unraveling Non‐Cubic Atomic Ordering in Surfactant‐Free AuAg Decahedral Nanoparticles by Pair Distribution Function (PDF) Analysis

open access: yesParticle &Particle Systems Characterization, EarlyView.
The atomic arrangement of few‐nm‐wide surfactant‐free noble metal (AuAg) decahedral nanoparticles is characterized using a structural refinement based on Pair Distribution Function (PDF) derived from Precession Electron Diffraction (PED). The results indicate that the measured structure is not well described by the classical Bagley body‐centered ...

Characterization of cyantraniliprole resistance in Spodoptera frugiperda: Selection, inheritance pattern, and cross‐resistance to other diamide insecticides

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
A cyantraniliprole‐resistant strain of Spodoptera frugiperda with I4790K mutation exhibited a resistance ratio of 3414‐fold and high cross‐resistance to other diamide insecticides. Abstract BACKGROUND Cyantraniliprole, a diamide insecticide, is widely used in Brazil to control sucking and defoliating pests, including the fall armyworm (Spodoptera ...

Bifenthrin resistance in Dalbulus maidis (Hemiptera: Cicadellidae): inheritance, cross‐resistance, and stability

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Resistance of Dalbulus maidis to bifenthrin was autosomal, incompletely dominant, and polygenic. Additionally, this resistance was unstable in the absence of selection pressure. Abstract BACKGROUND Pyrethroid insecticides have been a primary strategy for managing Dalbulus maidis (Hemiptera: Cicadellidae) in Brazil. Howeve, failures in the control of D.

Combined Atomic Force Microscopy and Raman Spectroscopy Investigation of Fingerprints Detriment upon Liquid Exposure for Forensic Analysis

open access: yesphysica status solidi (b), EarlyView.
Modern forensic investigation requires advanced analysis techniques combining chemical detection and high spatial resolution. In the present work, a Raman spectrometer coupled to an atomic force microscope (AFM) is applied to fingerprints detection and the study of their detriment in ambient conditions (exposure to water and acid water).

Phase‐Change Heterostructures Based on Antimony

open access: yesphysica status solidi (RRL) – Rapid Research Letters, EarlyView.
Switching cycle of a phase‐change superlattice heterostructure consisting of alternating nanolayers of antimony and TiTe2 is simulated using ab initio and machine‐learned molecular dynamics. It is shown that it is possible to switch the Sb layer without destroying the confinement layer.

Statistical Complexity of Quantum Learning

open access: yesAdvanced Quantum Technologies, EarlyView.
The statistical performance of quantum learning is investigated as a function of the number of training data N$N$, and of the number of copies available for each quantum state in the training and testing data sets, respectively S$S$ and V$V$. Indeed, the biggest difference in quantum learning comes from the destructive nature of quantum measurements ...

Robust Weak Measurements with Certified Single Photons

open access: yesAdvanced Quantum Technologies, EarlyView.
Weak values are usually extracted by statistical means, but with robust weak measurements they can be extracted by a single detection event with reasonable uncertainty. Here, robust weak measurements are experimentally implemented on certified single photons.
