Quasiseparable Hessenberg reduction of real diagonal plus low rank matrices and applications

open access: yes, 2015
We present a novel algorithm to perform the Hessenberg reduction of an $n\times n$ matrix $A$ of the form $A = D + UV^*$ where $D$ is diagonal with real entries and $U$ and $V$ are $n\times k$ matrices with $k\le n$. The algorithm has a cost of $O(n^2k)$

Harnessing Generative AI for Sustainable Supply Chains: Lean, Circular and Green Perspectives

open access: yesBusiness Strategy and the Environment, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Generative artificial intelligence is playing a significant role in the transformation of digital ecosystems by reinventing the processes of content generation, process automation, product innovation and customer experience. At the same time that these technologies are becoming more integrated into routine operations, the focus has shifted to ...

Number Phi [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Fibonacci is one of the most famous names in mathematics. This would come as a surprise to Leonardo Pisano, the mathematician we now know by that name. And he might have been equally surprised that he has been immortalised in the famous sequence – 0, 1 ...

Effective run-and-tumble dynamics of bacteria baths

open access: yes, 2013
{\it E. coli} bacteria swim in straight runs interrupted by sudden reorientation events called tumbles. The resulting random walks give rise to density fluctuations that can be derived analytically in the limit of non interacting particles or ...

Local realities, global discourses and decolonising the curriculum in a post‐92 UK context: Academic voices on enacting decolonial curriculum change

open access: yesThe Curriculum Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract This study explored how lecturers in a post‐92 UK university conceptualise and enact decolonial curriculum principles within their teaching and programme design. Drawing on semi‐structured interviews with academic staff across multiple disciplines, the research adopts a qualitative, phenomenologically informed approach to examine the interplay

Convexity properties of gradient maps associated to real reductive representations

open access: yes, 2019
Let G be a connected real reductive Lie group acting linearly on a finite dimensional vector space V over R. This action admits a Kempf-Ness function and so we have an associated gradient map.

Predictive value of seizure onset for gross motor dysfunction in individuals with pathogenic GABRB2 and GABRB3 variants

open access: yesEpilepsia, EarlyView.
Abstract Objective Pathogenic variants in γ‐aminobutyric acid type A (GABAA) receptor genes have been associated with a wide spectrum of neurological disorders. We aimed to delineate the clinical trajectories associated with gain‐of‐function (GoF) and loss‐of‐function (LoF) variants in GABRB2 and GABRB3, and to develop a risk‐prediction model for gross

Therapeutic Potential of Photobiomodulation in Early Recovery After Experimental Spinal Cord Injury in Rats: Histological and Biomechanical Analysis

open access: yesJournal of Biophotonics, EarlyView.
Spinal cord injuries (SCI) cause severe motor and sensory deficits, with limited treatment options. This study demonstrates that early application of photobiomodulation (PBM) can protect spinal cord tissue and accelerate functional recovery in a preclinical model, which integrates biomechanical analysis with histomorphological characteristics of the ...

Motility fractionation of bacteria by centrifugation

open access: yes, 2013
Centrifugation is a widespread laboratory technique used to separate mixtures into fractions characterized by a specific size, weight or density. We demonstrate that centrifugation can be also used to separate swimming cells having different motility. To

Assessing cognition in autistic youth with and without attention‐deficit/hyperactivity disorder using the NIH Toolbox Cognition Battery: An Environmental influences on Child Health Outcomes‐Wide Cohort Study

open access: yesJCPP Advances, EarlyView.
Autistic individuals tend to experience difficulties with fluid cognition as found previously, with minimal impact of ADHD. However, there was a notable proportion of autistic individuals with average or superior cognitive performance, highlighting the importance of strength‐based and transdiagnostic research approaches.
