Heavy Metal Contamination in Arenillas Ecological Reserve Soils: Correlation and Conservation Impact
ABSTRACT This study addresses the critical knowledge gap regarding heavy metal contamination in the soils of the Arenillas Ecological Reserve (AERv), located on the southwest coast of Ecuador. Despite being a fragile and highly biodiverse ecosystem, little is known about the magnitude, spatial distribution, and drivers of heavy metal contamination in ...

Feral cats (Felis catus) have spread across Australia over the past 200 years, displaying various coat types, yet it remains unknown if any offers an adaptive advantage. Using a dataset of 24,657 camera‐trap images, we examined if any coat types correlate with spatial or temporal features.

Among 90 E. coli isolates from 70 mammals, significant resistance was found to ampicillin (52.22%), ceftriaxone (42.22%) and cefuroxime (42.22%), with 27.78% being ESBL‐producing. Notably, 66.67% of isolates showed resistance to at least one antibiotic, and 35.56% exhibited multiresistant phenotypes.

Conservation detection dogs: A critical review of efficacy and methodology
Conservation detection dogs (CDD) can be effective and applied to possibly limitless conservation scenarios but moving forward researchers must provide more consistent and detailed methodologies so that comparisons can be conducted, results are more easily replicated and progress can be made in standardising CDD work. This review aims to summarise what

Evaluating hybrid speciation and swamping in wild carnivores with a decision‐tree approach
Abstract Hybridization is an important evolutionary force with a principal role in the origin of new species, known as hybrid speciation. However, ongoing hybridization can create hybrid swamping, in which parental genomes are completely lost. This can become a biodiversity threat if it involves species that have adapted to certain environmental ...

Wild species are susceptible to several typical domestic animal pathogens, and the increasingly close contact between these groups is a predictive factor for disease exposure. Some viruses are important and old‐known, and others are emerging or reemerging for domestic carnivorans and have been identified as threats to the conservation of wild mammals ...
