Male Genitalia of Lepidoptera: Morphology and Nomenclature II. Morphological Significance of Sacculus and Furca

The sacculus (named by Pierce, 1909) is a reflected flange of the sclerotized part of the valva, occupying the ventroproximal portion on its mesal surface. Such a morphological element is widely found in the male genital apparatus of most specialized forms of Lepidoptera.

Myths and facts about the absence of socii in the male genitalia of Larentiinae (Lepidoptera: Geometridae)

The definition of the term ‘socius’ is evaluated. Considering several recent publications, in which it was assumed that the socii were generally lacking in the male genitalia of the larentiine moths of the family Geometridae, the male genitalic characters of a number of larentiine species representing all the European tribes have been re-examined.
