Exposure to sublethal concentrations of Zn(II) and Cu(II) changes biochemical parameters in Leporinus obtusidens

Chemosphere, 2007
The aim of the present study was to assess the effect of the exposure of Leporinus obtusidens (Piava) to zinc and copper on catalase activity in the liver, delta-aminolevulinate dehidratase (delta-ALA-D) activity in liver, muscle, brain and kidney, and thiobarbituric reactive species (TBARS) in brain, muscle and liver.

The 2,4-D herbicide effects on acetylcholinesterase activity and metabolic parameters of piava freshwater fish (Leporinus obtusidens)

open access: yesEcotoxicology and Environmental Safety, 2008
The effects of 2,4-D (1 or 10 mg/L) on acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and metabolic parameters were evaluated in piava (Leporinus obtusidens) after 96 h. AChE activity was significantly reduced in the brain at a concentration of 10 mg/L and in the muscle at both concentrations tested.

Biochemical effects of clomazone herbicide on piava (Leporinus obtusidens)

Chemosphere, 2008
This study aims to verify the effects of the clomazone concentration used in rice fields on acetylcholinesterase (AChE), thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS), protein carbonyl and catalase activity in tissues of piava (Leporinus obtusidens).

Effects of four rice herbicides on some metabolic and toxicology parameters of teleost fish (Leporinus obtusidens)

Chemosphere, 2007
Effects of different herbicides on acetylcholinesterase (AChE), catalase and TBARS formation in teleost fish (Leporinus obtusidens) were studied. Fish were exposed during 30 days at concentrations of herbicides used in rice field. AChE activity in the brain decreased significantly after exposure to the herbicides clomazone and quinclorac. However, AChE

Gonadorelin increases semen production and does not affect its quality in Leporinus obtusidens

Animal Reproduction Science, 2017
Use of carp pituitary extract (CPE) as a hormone inducer for Leporinus obtusidens is cost-prohibitive; moreover, CPE contains unknown concentrations of gonadotropins. We evaluated the efficacy of gonadorelin as a substitute by analyzing its effect on sperm characteristics of L.

Acute Exposure to Glyphosate Herbicide Affects Oxidative Parameters in Piava (Leporinus obtusidens)

Archives of Environmental Contamination and Toxicology, 2011
In recent years, commercial glyphosate herbicide formulations have been widely used in agriculture to control aquatic weeds. These pesticides may result in disruption of ecological balance, causing damage to nontarget organisms including fish. Teleostean fish (Leporinus obtusidens) were exposed to commercial glyphosate herbicide formulation at 0 ...

Sublethal Zinc and Copper Exposure Affect Acetylcholinesterase Activity and Accumulation in Different Tissues of Leporinus obtusidens

Bulletin of Environmental Contamination and Toxicology, 2012
In this study, we investigated zinc and copper effects on acetylcholinesterase (AChE, EC. 3.1.1.7) activity and metal accumulation in tissues of native fish Leporinus obtusidens (piava). Fish were exposed to 10 and 20 % of the LC(50) that corresponded at 2.28 and 4.57 mg/L (zinc) and 0.018 and 0.038 mg/L (copper) for 30 and 45 days.

Gene banking of the neotropical fish Leporinus obtusidens (Valenciennes, 1836): A protocol to freeze its sperm in the field

Animal Reproduction Science, 2008
A practical sperm cryopreservation protocol using a dry-shipper and a diluent of simple composition is described for the neotropical fish Leporinus obtusidens (Valenciennes, 1836). The cooling rate of the dry-shipper and its period of useful time, established under laboratory conditions, were respectively 25.7-30.8 degrees C/min (between 0 and -60 ...

Herbicide Formulation with Glyphosate Affects Growth, Acetylcholinesterase Activity, and Metabolic and Hematological Parameters in Piava (Leporinus obtusidens)

Archives of Environmental Contamination and Toxicology, 2010
The teleost fish Leporinus obtusidens (piava) was exposed to different concentrations of Roundup, a commercial herbicide formulation containing glyphosate (0, 1, or 5 mg L(-1)), for 90 days. Acetylcholinesterase (AChE) activity was verified in brain and muscle.
