Chromosomes of Leptodactylidae (Amphibia anura)

Sperm morphology of Batrachyla (Anura: Leptodactylidae)
Amphibia-Reptilia, 1989Abstract The structure of immature and mature sperm of the three species of Batrachyla were compared by using smears for light microscopy and ultrathin sections for transmission electron microscopy. Minor differences in length and some ultrastructural details support the notion that B. antartandica and B, taeniata are more closely related to

Karyotypes of Leptodactylidae Anurans
Journal of Herpetology, 1972Karyotypes of 8 species of Leptodactylidae amphibians were studied. They constitute two groups with 2n=22 and 2n=26 chromosomes. Centric fusions and pericentric inversions are the most important mechanisms of karyotype differentiation among these species. Cytophotometric measurements of 7 species showed a gradual increase of DNA content. * * *

Evolution of macroglands and defensive mechanisms in Leiuperinae (Anura: Leptodactylidae)
Zoological Journal of the Linnean Society, 2020Abstract Anurans show a wide variety of anti-predator mechanisms, and the species of the Neotropical clade Leiuperinae display several of them. Most species of Edalorhina, Physalaemus and Pleurodema show eyespots, hidden bright colours, macroglands in a inguinal/lumbar position, defensive behaviours and/or chemical defence.

The Tadpole of Physalaemus albonotatus (Anura: Leptodactylidae)
Journal of Herpetology, 2004Abstract We describe the tadpole of Physalaemus albonotatus (Anura, Leptodactylidae), from specimens collected from northeastern Argentina. The distinguishing characteristics (Stage 36) are (1) labial tooth row formula: 2(2)/3(1); (2) rostral gap about 2.5 times greater than mental gap; (3) body length of 10.00 mm and total length of 24.20 mm; and (4 ...

New chromosome numbers in Australian Leptodactylidae (Amphibia, Salientia)

Description of the tadpole of Leptodactylus vastus (Anura: Leptodactylidae)
Zootaxa, 2007The Neotropical frog Leptodactylus vastus belongs to the L. pentadactylus group, a group that currently contains 14 species, and of which nine tadpoles have been described. The tadpoles of L. vastus described here are generally much smaller than tadpoles of the other species described. The oral disk of L.
