A Brazilian anuran (Hylodes magalhaesi: Leptodactylidae) infected by Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis: a conservation concern [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Several studies have associated the chytrid fungus Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis with anuran population declines worldwide. To date, the fungus has been found in Africa, the Americas, Australia, and Europe.

Mother Chemical Stimulus and Aggregation Behaviour of Tadpoles in a Neotropical Foam‐Nesting Frog

open access: yesAustral Ecology, Volume 50, Issue 4, April 2025.
The tadpoles of the neotropical foam‐nesting frog, Leptodactylus macrosternum, are escorted by an attending female. We found that tadpoles only increased the time of aggregation in the presence of the chemical stimuli of the attending females. Tadpoles of other species from the L. latrans group, such as L. insularum and L. luctator, may present similar

Comparative analysis of amphibian genomes: An emerging resource for basic and applied research

open access: yesMolecular Ecology Resources, Volume 25, Issue 1, January 2025.
Abstract Amphibians are the most threatened group of vertebrates and are in dire need of conservation intervention to ensure their continued survival. They exhibit unique features including a high diversity of reproductive strategies, permeable and specialized skin capable of producing toxins and antimicrobial compounds, multiple genetic mechanisms of ...

Temporal Dynamics of Species Richness and Composition in a Peri‐Urban Tropical Frog Community in Central Brazil

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 14, Issue 11, November 2024.
This study address how species coexistence and species–environment relationship are impacted by temporal variation in climate sub‐urban area. ABSTRACT Analyzing the temporal dynamics of ecological communities can shed light on coexistence mechanisms and help understand how populations and communities will behave in the face of climate change.

Mitonuclear and phenotypic discordance in an Atlantic Forest frog hybrid zone

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 14, Issue 9, September 2024.
We characterized the patterns of genetic and phenotypic variation in a contact zone between Cycloramphus dubius and Cycloramphus boraceiensis, two sister species of frogs endemic to the Atlantic Coastal Forest of Brazil. We detected discordance in patterns of introgression across the three data types.
