AbstractOxidative stress is a risk factor for bronchopulmonary dysplasia in the preterm newborn. Antioxidant defense is impaired in the preterm newborn. Oxidative stress is also involved in cell growth and development. The relationship between oxidative stress and cell growth needs to be understood before antioxidant therapy can be routinely introduced.
