Numerical Study of Flow Field Characteristics in the Trachea During Growth of Human Upper Airways [PDF]

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2022
The development of organs in the human body does not end at birth. During the first five years of life, changes occur in the respiratory tract, not only in terms of its dimensions but also in the way it is used.

LES over RANS in building simulation for outdoor and indoor applications: A foregone conclusion?

open access: yesBuilding Simulation, 2018
Large Eddy Simulation (LES) undeniably has the potential to provide more accurate and more reliable results than simulations based on the Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) approach.

Evaluating modelled winds over an urban area using ground‐based Doppler lidar observations

open access: yesMeteorological Applications, Volume 29, Issue 2, March/April 2022., 2022
Long‐term weather model (MEPS) and analysis systems (LAPS) vertical wind verification against Doppler lidar observations in an urban environment showed variable strengths and weaknesses depending on the atmospheric conditions. Considerable horizontal biases were observed within the city domain. These further depend on the wind direction.

Decay of Swirling Turbulent Flow in Rod-bundle

open access: yesJournal of Fluid Science and Technology, 2006
An LES was carried out to clarify the mechanism of decaying swirl in a rod-bundle. In our LES, an immersed boundary method was used to treat this complex wall boundary in the Cartesian grid system. A consistent immersed boundary method and a one-equation

Size‐Dependent Characteristics of Surface‐Rooted Three‐Dimensional Convective Objects in Continental Shallow Cumulus Simulations

open access: yesJournal of Advances in Modeling Earth Systems, Volume 14, Issue 3, March 2022., 2022
Abstract A segmentation algorithm is applied to high resolution simulations of shallow continental convection to identify individual convective 3D objects within the convective boundary layer, in order to investigate which properties of the objects vary with the object width.

Simulation of Ternary Mixing in a Coannular Jet-in-Crossflow

open access: yesJournal of Fluid Science and Technology, 2009
A method for LES of ternary mixing in turbulent flows is presented and partly validated against DNS data. The subgrid-scale mixing state is characterized by joint presumed discrete distributions, i.e.

Prostoupení kulturní krajiny a lesa v kontextu kulturní ekologie

open access: yesEnvigogika, 2014
Kulturní krajina a její aspekty jsou dnes frekventovaná témata kulturní a krajinné ekologie. Svět významů kulturní krajiny k sobě logicky přitahuje i svůj protipól v podobě divočiny a přírody pro své doplnění a vymezení. Pojmy divočina a příroda je třeba

Introduction to Coastal HF Maritime Surveillance Radars

open access: yesPolish Maritime Research, 2019
This paper presents the main technical characteristics and working performances of coastal maritime surveillance radars, such as low-power High-Frequency Surface Wave Radars (HFSWR) and Over the Horizon Radars (OTHR). These radars have demonstrated to be

The State of the Art of Hybrid RANS/LES Modeling for the Simulation of Turbulent Flows

open access: yesFlow Turbulence and Combustion, 2017
This review presents the state of the art of hybrid RANS/LES modeling for the simulation of turbulent flows. After recalling the modeling used in RANS and LES methodologies, we propose in a first step a theoretical formalism developed in the spectral ...

Numerical Simulation of Blood Flow in Aortoiliac Bifurcation with Increasing Degree of Stenosis [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Applied Fluid Mechanics, 2023
The worldwide lethal prevalence of atherosclerotic diseases has made it a crucial topic of research, the descending aorta is a major artery with complex geometry involving curvature, branches, and bifurcation leading to common iliac arteries.
