The jaws differ in various aspects from all other bones in the skeleton. Embryologically, they are for the major part derived from migrating cells of the cranial neural crest, the so‐called ectomesenchyme, and not merely from mesoderm, and they contain teeth.

Because of the singular anatomic structure of the nipple, some breast lesions only occur at this site. The overlying skin includes normal Toker cells near the duct orifices. These cells are occasionally so numerous as to be called Toker cell hyperplasia.

Imaging of lesions within the maxilla and mandible is often fraught with difficulty owing to the similarity in the imaging appearance of a diverse array of pathological processes. Principally, lesions arise from either odontogenic sources or from primary bone lesions.

Inflammatory Lesions and Inflammatory-Like Lesions
2021Several inflammatory or inflammatory-like lesions that involve the breast have an overall spindle cell appearance or may develop focal areas with spindled or histiocytoid morphology. Such lesions can present diagnostic challenges given the broad differential that arises from their often overlapping histologies, especially on the limited sampling of a ...

Jaw lesions are relatively common findings on imaging studies of the lower face. The intent of this article is to present an approach to the diagnosis of lesions involving the maxilla and mandible based on their radiographic appearance and location. The radiographic and computed tomographic appearances of a number of lesions occurring in the maxilla ...

Lesions of juxtacortical origin (surface lesions of bone)
Skeletal Radiology, 1993A large variety of tumor and tumor-like conditions have been shown to originate from the surface of bone (Table 1). Most surface lesions are associated with periosteal reaction. The periosteum is a multipotential membrane. Its cellular composition may give rise to a variety of both neoplasms and tumor-like conditions.

The conventional concept of the initiation of atherosclerosis begins with the fatty streak, a deposit of lipid in the intima and inner media of elastic and large muscular arteries. More lipid is deposited and is encapsulated by smooth muscle and connective tissue to form the fibrous plaque.

Specificn be found in more than a third of patients with systemic sarcoidosis. These lesions represent dermal sarcoid granulomas and are capable of wide variation in clinical appearance, even though the microscopic picture is constant. Examination with eye and hand (for the infiltrate is often more easily palpated than seen) must be followed with ...
