Substituent Effects on Cyanine Dyes Vary with Position and Chain Length

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
In cyanines, substituent effects vary as a function of substituent position and cyanine length. Electron‐donating‐ and ‐withdrawing groups at meso‐ and α‐positions of 4n+1/4n−1 long cyanines (n = 1, 2, 3…) cause opposing, hypsochromic and bathochromic shifts of the 1st UV–vis absorption bands.

Projector‐Induced Waveguide Encoded Lattices (ProWELs) with Optical Functionality: From Enhanced Fields of View (FOV) to 3D Data Encoding

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
We describe the fabrication of 3D polymeric waveguide architectures with tunability of waveguide diameter, lattice symmetry and long and short‐range order using an inexpensive (< $400 CAD) digital light projector. We demonstrate that Projector induced Waveguide Encoded Lattices (ProWELs) possess advanced functionality including tuneable Fields of View (

Photonics of Topological Magnetic Textures

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
Localized noncollinear magetic textures imprint their geometry and topology onto traversing photonic fields endowing them with orbital angular‐momentum, chirality, and magnetoelectric densities. Abstract Topological textures in magnetically ordered materials are an important case studies for fundamental research with promising applications in data ...

A model of a lessor

Omega, 1982
Abstract The lease-or-buy decision has been widely considered. This paper examines the reverse side of the situation, namely from the lessor's point of view. Which leases should be accepted or offered, how should they be funded, what decisions should be made if taxable capacity runs out, what is the impact of gearing restrictions or lessee defaults ...
