Taxonomic Notes on the Stonefly Genus Neoperlops Banks, 1939 (Plecoptera: Perlidae)

open access: yesPsyche: A Journal of Entomology, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
The genus Neoperlops Banks, 1939, is redescribed here. Neoperlops obscuripennis Banks, 1939, N. huanghuye (Chen, 2020), and N. gressitti Banks, 1939 (the type species), are newly synonymized with Neoperlops cheni (Wu, 1938). The genus now comprises only three valid species.

The Detri2match conceptual framework: Matching detritivore and detritus traits to unravel consumption rules in a context of decomposition

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, Volume 38, Issue 10, Page 2084-2098, October 2024.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract From soil to freshwater ecosystems, decomposition can be conceived as the result of interactions between organic matter and a diversity of organisms. This function is driven in part by detritivores, invertebrates that feed on detritus or graze on its associated microbes

Comparison of Leuctra kisi STEINMANN, 1968 with Leuctra quadrimaculata KIS, 1963 (Plecoptera: Leuctridae), and the first record of L. quadrimaculata from Ukraine [PDF]

open access: yesOpuscula Zoologica Instituti Zoosystematici et Oecologici Universitatis Budapestinensis, 2006
Female of Leuctra kisi STEINMANN, 1968, is compared with Leuctra quadrimaculata KIS, 1963. The similarity of their characters is stated, and the distinguishing characters of the original descriptions of L. kisi is rejected.

Effects of natural flood management woody dams on benthic macroinvertebrates and benthic metabolism in upland streams: Importance of wood‐induced geomorphic changes

open access: yesEcohydrology, Volume 17, Issue 5, July 2024.
Abstract Natural Flood Management (NFM) aims to reduce flood hazard by working with nature and is gaining prominence worldwide. One particular NFM technique involves the use of channel‐spanning woody dams that maintain a clearance height above baseflow. These dams function by increasing channel roughness during high flows and by forcing excessive water

Similarity of stream insect trait profiles across biogeographic regions

open access: yesDiversity and Distributions, Volume 30, Issue 4, April 2024.
Abstract Aim Habitat templet theory predicts that the functional niches of species evolved in response to selection pressures imposed by each species' spatial–temporal environment. Consequently, similar environmental conditions should lead to convergence in the biological trait composition of biogeographically independent assemblages.
