ACUTE MONOCYTIC (HISTIOCYTIC) LEUKEMIA

Archives of Internal Medicine, 1930
The conception is still general that but two types of leukemia exist: myelogenous, arising from the bone-marrow, and lymphatic, arising from the lymphoid tissue. That there is a third form of leukemia, arising from the reticulo-endothelial (histiocytic) system and characterized hematologically by an extreme degree of monocytosis and histiocytosis, is ...

Histiocytic differentiation in acute monocytic leukemia

Ultrastructural Pathology, 2016
Myeloid histocytes of dendritic cells (DCs), Langerhans cells (LCs), and macrophages in varied tissues, as leukemic blasts in acute monoblastic and monocytic leukemia (AML-M5a and M5b), are derived from monocyte progenitors in bone marrow. Based on DC induction from hematopoietic stem cells, myeloid progenitors, and monocytes, and occasional ...

Acute Monocytic Leukemia Presenting as Acute Respiratory Failure

American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, 2003
Acute respiratory failure revealing acute monocytic leukemia is rare. We report 20 patients admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) with three remarkable features: (1) rapidly progressive respiratory distress revealing acute leukemia, (2) monocytic leukemia, and (3) respiratory status deterioration after chemotherapy initiation. The median age was 50

Acute Monocytic Leukemia Presenting as Cutaneous Involvement

Dermatology, 1999
Specific cutaneous lesions appearing during acute monocytic leukemia (AMoL) are more frequent than those associated with other types of leukemia. However, skin involvement preceding the presence of leukemic cells in the peripheral blood is quite rare.

Leukemia cutis in acute monocytic leukemia.

Cutis, 1989
We describe the case of a patient with acute monocytic leukemia who demonstrated striking leukemic infiltration of the abdomen. This cutaneous involvement occurred in association with systemic relapse. Histologic examination of a biopsy specimen of a cutaneous lesion showed a diffuse infiltrate of leukemic cells in the dermis.

Neurofibromatosis and acute monocytic leukemia in adults

Cancer, 1989
A patient with nonfamilial peripheral neurofibromatosis (NF) (von Recklinghausen's disease) is reported who contracted acute monocytic leukemia at 60 years of age. In the course of the illness, myelonecrosis developed and the patient died 4 months later due to a therapy-resistant bone marrow relapse.

Acute Monocytic Leukemia: A Single Institution Experience

Leukemia & Lymphoma, 1995
Using strict FAB criteria, 39 cases of monocytic leukemia were identified in 463 consecutive cases of AML. Patients had a median age of 49 with no sex predominance. Extramedullary disease and hyperleukocytosis were common (54% and 36% of patients respectively).
