The leukocyte count: A predictor of hypertension
Journal of Clinical Epidemiology, 1990In an exploratory study of 1031 persons observed to progress from normotension to essential hypertension and 1031 matched subjects who remained normotensive, the initial leukocyte count (WBC) was found to be related to the development of hypertension, with risk increased 40% (95% confidence interval 12-82%) in persons in the highest as compared to the ...

Leukocyte Counts in Healthy Adults
American Journal of Clinical Pathology, 1971In an attempt to resolve the uncertainty concerning normal values for leukocyte counts and their possible variation with age and sex, total and differential leukocyte counts in 507 healthy adults were analyzed. Values approximated those previously reported, with the exception of lymphocytes, for which our 97.5 percentile was lower.

Leukocyte Counts in Synovial Fluid
Annals of Internal Medicine, 1971Excerpt To the editor: In the case study, "Pseudogout with Low Values of Alkaline Phosphatase in the Synovial Fluid," by Yaron and associates in the ANNALS(73:751-756, 1970), the authors state that...

The differential leukocyte count in shigellosis
Infection, 1982We analysed the peripheral leukocyte count of 80 children with shigella gastroenteritis. The total leukocyte count varied widely from leukopenia to leukocytosis, and is therefore of little value in differentiating shigellosis from viral gastroenteritis.

Biologic Variability of Leukocyte Count
Annals of Internal Medicine, 1972Excerpt To the editor: I enjoyed the article, "Chronic Idiopathic Leukocytosis," by Ward and Reinhard in the August 1971 issue, but it seems to me that the authors might have given a better perspec...

Leukocytic and neutrophilic counts in acute appendicitis
The American Journal of Surgery, 1970Summary An appreciable rise in the leukocytic and neutrophilic counts is encountered in most patients with acute appendicitis. Ninety per cent of such patients have a white blood cell count over 10,000 per mm 3 whereas 90 per cent of normal persons have a white blood cell count below 10,000 per mm 3 .

LEUKOCYTE COUNTS AND BARBITURATES
JAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association, 1934To the Editor:— I feel that some comment should be made relative to the article of Hardwick and Randall that appeared inThe Journal, May 12, page 1558. These authors studied the leukocyte counts of fifty-nine women who had been given pentobarbital sodium as an obstetric analgesic and concluded that the drug had no effect on the leukocyte count.

The differential count of oral leukocytes
European Journal of Oral Sciences, 1972abstract – The differential count of oral leukocytes was estimated from a group of 43 healthy dental students. A modified Millipore® technique was used. The differential count was made from samples of stimulated saliva, whole saliva, and sequential mouth rinses with hypertonic saline. The media from which the leukocytes were obtained did not influence

A METHOD FOR COUNTING LEUKOCYTES IN FILTERED COMPONENTS
Transfusion, 1990ABSTRACT: Leukocyte‐depleted components are being used more frequently. Quantitation of residual WBCs is needed for quality control and for establishing the critical level required to prevent alloimmunization. Electronic counting is not accurate at WBC levels below 100/μL (1) and previously proposed techniques are either tedious or require ...

Leukocyte Count, Smoking, and Myocardial Infarction
New England Journal of Medicine, 1981THE original report by Friedman and his co-workers1 that the leukocyte count is a predictor of myocardial infarction independent of established risk factors did not carefully control for the one ri...
