Transient leukocytosis in Emergency Room: an overlooked issue

open access: yes, 2017
Leukocytosis is regarded as a reliable marker of a serious disorder requiring hospitalization. However, leukocytosis often disappears once the patient is admitted to a medical ward; differential diagnosis of leukocytosis is often overlooked in the busy ...

Can Machine Learning Reduce Unnecessary Surgeries? A Retrospective Analysis Using Threshold Optimization to Prevent Negative Appendectomies in Adults

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, EarlyView.
Threshold‐optimized machine learning models using routine clinical and laboratory data in 623 adults undergoing appendectomy. Logistic regression (AUC = 0.765) and random forest (AUC = 0.785) were the best‐performing models for appendicitis detection and complicated appendicitis prediction, respectively.

Lymphocyte‐C‐Reactive Protein Ratio as Promising New Marker for Predicting Surgical Site Infection in Children With Ulcerative Colitis

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Surgical site infection (SSI) is a major complication after ileal pouch–anal anastomosis (IPAA) in pediatric ulcerative colitis (UC), significantly impairing quality of life. The lymphocyte‐to–C‐reactive protein ratio (LCR), a composite marker of systemic inflammation and immune/nutritional status, has emerged as a potential ...

Transient Peripheral Leukocytosis in Children With Afebrile Seizures

open access: yes, 2007
The purpose of this Study was (1) to demonstrate whether peripheral blood leukocytosis accompanies first afebrile seizures without bacterial infection, (2) to investigate the duration of leukocytosis, and (3) to assess the relationship between peripheral

Complex Genetic Architecture in RASopathies: Constitutional PTPN11 and Mosaic RIT1 Pathogenic Variants Underlying Severe Noonan Syndrome With Adult‐Onset Acute Myeloid Leukemia

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Medical Genetics Part A, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Noonan syndrome (NS) is a genetically heterogeneous disorder characterized by a broad spectrum of clinical features resulting from dysregulation of the RAS/MAPK pathway. Although complex genotypes are increasingly recognized in NS, cases harboring two distinct pathogenic variants in different NS genes remain extremely rare.

Clinical periodontal diagnosis

open access: yesPeriodontology 2000, EarlyView., 2023
Abstract Periodontal diseases include pathological conditions elicited by the presence of bacterial biofilms leading to a host response. In the diagnostic process, clinical signs such as bleeding on probing, development of periodontal pockets and gingival recessions, furcation involvement and presence of radiographic bone loss should be assessed prior ...

Assessment of the Relationship Between Leukocyte Count and Neutrophil-to-Lymphocyte Ratio and Clinical Course in Non-Variceal Upper Gastrointestinal System Bleeding

open access: yesSakarya Tıp Dergisi, 2018
Objective: Nonvariceal upper gastrointestinal system bleeding (NVUGIB) is a life-threatening condition that can lead to mortality. It is important to identify the risk factors in terms of prognosis and mortality in patients with NVUGIB. In this study, we

Intraosseous sarcoidosis imitating peri‐implantitis: A case study

open access: yesClinical Advances in Periodontics, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Sarcoidosis is a multisystem granulomatous disorder of unknown cause, typically affecting the lungs and lymph nodes, but it can also involve the eyes, skin, heart, bones, and other organs. The exact cause is unclear, but genetic factors and environmental triggers like infections, chemicals, or dust may play a role.

A typical atypical chronic myeloid leukemia

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, 2018
Key Clinical Message In the context of leukocytosis due to increased number of neutrophils and their precursors, with significant dysgranulopoiesis and no or minimal basophilia and no or minimal monocytosis, the typical feature of “clumped” chromatin, in

Baseline Peripheral Blood Leukocytosis Is Negatively Correlated With T-Cell Infiltration Predicting Worse Outcome in Colorectal Cancers

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2018
We aimed to explore the prognostic value of blood leukocyte and to generate a predictive model to refine risk stratification for colorectal cancers. 6,558 patients with colorectal cancers were identified eligible respectively in Fudan University Shanghai
