Immiscible Displacement at Pore Level for Correlated Porous Media

International Journal of Modern Physics C, 1998
Immiscible displacement at pore level on a three-dimensional correlated porous network is simulated allowing flow of the wetting phase along crevices of the pore walls (possibility of snap-off in throats) and advance through the centers of the pore space with different pore and throat filling conditions, leading to a cooperative filling.

Position, Displacement, and Level

2010
The measurement of position and displacement of physical objects is essential for many applications: process feedback control, performance evaluation, transportation traffic control, robotics, security systems, just to name the few. By position, we mean determination of the object’s coordinates (linear or angular) with respect to a selected reference ...

Accurate monitoring of displacements by liquid level instrumentation

2011
Liquid level instrumentation is a commonly accepted and effective method to perform precision monitoring of vertical displacements during building and tunnelling activities. The liquid level sensors mounted to the structure detect the change of the hydrostatic pressure relative to a reference cell outside the zone of influence.

Level set methods for the displacement of layered materials

Proceedings of the Royal Society A: Mathematical, Physical and Engineering Sciences, 2007
Previous multi-layered folding models have struggled to describe the geometry of the interfaces between layers. In the level set method (LSM), a single function ϕ ( x ,  y ,  t ) can be used to encode all the information of a multi-layer ...

Displacement of Energy Levels of Atoms by Light

Journal of the Optical Society of America, 1963
This is a brief account of recent results obtained in Paris by the development of optical-pumping techniques, and especially on the thesis of Cagnac and the thesis of Cohen-Tannoudji. Cagnac has used the optical-pumping technique to achieve nuclear orientation in the ground state of the odd mercury isotopes and has made an extensive study of the ...

Metrology for Comparison of Displacements at the Picometer Level

Key Engineering Materials, 2014
An apparatus capable of comparing displacements with picometer accuracy is currently being designed at NIST. In principle, we wish to compare one displacement in vacuum to a second, equal displacement in gas, in order to determine gas refractive index.

Displacement based design of multi level anchored deep excavations

ce/papers, 2018
AbstractBraced deep excavations are getting widespread in parallel to the increase in the need to use underground spaces for infrastructures and tall buildings which make them an essential part of geotechnical engineering practice. Braced support system movements shall be small enough to ensure remain within acceptable limits.

A real time fiber optic micro displacement level sensor

2011 Fifth International Conference on Sensing Technology, 2011
Detection of micro change in liquid level using PMMA fiber in real time is demonstrated in this article. This sensor operates on light intensity modulation and such modulation results due to displacement of a floating reflector. The sensor system consists of light source, encapsulated PMMA fiber, floating reflector, photo detector, transimpedence ...

Job displacement and labor market outcomes by skill level [PDF]

open access: possible, 2012
This paper investigates the effects of displacement on outcomes such as annual earnings, unemployment, wages and hours worked. It relies on previously unexplored administrative data on all displaced workers in Sweden in 2002, 2003 and 2004 which are linked to employer-employee matched data at the individual level.
