Radiating Levi-Civita metric

open access: closedJournal of Physics A: General Physics, 1971
A generalization of Levi-Civita's static solution for the exterior gravitational field of a cylinder of infinite length and finite cross section, corresponding to the field equations Tab=qkakb, kaka=0, is discussed. The expression for q is of the form f'(u)/ rho , which shows the typical cylindrical fall-off over the null hypersurface u=constant. It is

Note on the Levi-Civita metric

open access: closedInternational Journal of Geometric Methods in Modern Physics, 2022
By introducing a new coordinate condition we divide the cylindrical spacetime of Levi-Civita (LC) into a sourceful inner ([Formula: see text]) and vacuum outer ([Formula: see text]) regions. The emergent fluid with zero radial pressure confined to the finely-tuned inner region serves to make the spacetime regular in a natural way.

The Hopf-Levi-Civita Data of Two-Dimensional Metrics

open access: closed, 2021
The aim of this chapter is to study three 2-dimensional geometries, namely Riemannian, Kahler and Hessian, in a unitary way by using three (local) Hermitian matrices. One of these matrices corresponds to the symmetric matrix of metric while the other two Hermitian matrices is provided by the Christoffel symbols.

Perfect-fluid sources for the Levi-Civita metric

open access: closedClassical and Quantum Gravity, 1996
A class of four static cylindrically symmetric perfect-fluid solutions is derived using a formulation given by Kramer. The solutions are regular and satisfy energy conditions inside cylinders of bounded radii at which the pressure vanishes. Matching to the exterior Levi-Civita metric is achieved and thus the solutions could represent cylindrical ...

Interpreting the Levi-Civita vacuum metric

open access: closedClassical and Quantum Gravity, 1992
A three-parameter family of solutions for perfect fluid cylinders is used as interior to the vacuum Levi-Civita metric for an infinite line mass.

Behaviour of Weyl–Levi Civita Coordinates for a Class of Solutions approximating the Schwarzschild Metric

open access: closedNature, 1968
THE search for energy sources for the ultra-high-energy phenomena in astrophysics discovered recently (quasars and pulsars, for example) has led to renewed interest in the study of general-relativistic gravitational collapse. (For a survey of relativistic astrophysics, see ref.
