Magnetic Levitation Force of High Temperature Superconductors.
高温超電導体の発見によって,液体窒素を用いて超電導現象が利用できるようになったことから,いろいろな分野に大きなインパクトを与えた。また,悲観的な予測が大勢を占めていた実用化の問題も,最近では材料の組織制御によりピン止め力の大きな超電導体の作製も可能となってきたことから,かなり希望がみえてきている。さらに,ピン止めの大きな材料を用いて,磁場に対して大きな反発力を得ることができるようになり,人間を空中に浮上させることにも成功している。原理的にはいくらでも重いものが浮上できることがわかり,この特性を利用したベアリングやフライホイールへの応用が検討されだしている。
